Ok it's back on. Where we'll be staying on the weekend is a 5 minute drive (about 2 corners involved) to get to the crawling spot. I figure I'll disconnect there, then take it easy on the drive to the spot. With the amount of 'roos and other wildlife getting around up there I'll be doing about 15km/h!
A couple of different sizes of zip ties are one thing I keep in the Jeep always, so no issues there.
Thanks for all the tips guys, this should make the process much easier. I'll get some shots of the Jeep in action up when I get back.

I've got Terraflex QD's now, but I would manually disconnect each time I went wheeling. To me it's just safer to keep all your wheels on the ground as much as possible.
Takes a few minutes but it's NOT hard at all. Everybody has pretty much told you how to do it, so I won't get into that. But I will tell you that I carry long zip ties (you can also connect 2 shorter ties together to make a long one) and then zip tie the links to the front body mount. I only undo the bottom link and leave the top still connected to the sway bar. I've driven home disconnected, you just have to be careful and avoid sudden turns.
Reconnecting can be a pain. Park on a level surface, but sometimes I've connected one side and the other just doesn't want to line up. I'll throw a small rock in front of the tire and drive up on it and that will line it up better.

Nooo, no trouble at all once you have done it once.
18mm socket and I think a 17mm spanner (cant remember now) and just remove the bolts from the axle end.
Once both are undone, lift the swaybar up pretty much as high as it will go then swing the links up parallel to the bar and cable tie them to something up there.
I did this several times before getting PP quick disconnects and it only takes a couple of minutes. Makes a huge difference to crawling as the traction is heaps better.
Of course always drive carefully when removed, keeping prob below 40mph (I could comfortably sit at 80km/hr - bout 55mph) and only try to fit/remove on flat ground or you will go mad!

I had a feeling it might be too much trouble. I'll have a go while the Jeep is in the garage but not sure if I can be bothered doing this out in the bush.
Maybe disconnecting the sway bar can wait until I've bought myself (and GroundHawg) a set of quick discos.

Park on a flat surface.
I think it's an 18mm wrench or socket, remove that bolt where it connects to the axle.
Take a 19mm wrench in between the sway bar link and sway bar and hold the ball joint thing in place while removing the nut securing it in place with the 18mm wrench.
Save those links in the center console. I always remove them so they don't get lost.
Now zip tie the sway bar UP OUT OF THE WAY.
Put it back together the same way. It's a real bitch sometimes re-connecting and I sometimes need a friend jumping around on the hood to help line it up
DONT DRIVE FAST ON THE ROAD. SERIOUSLY, GO LIKE 10 I forgot to reconnect once and I thought she was going over pulling into a gas station.
DONT DISCONNECT THE REAR.
DO BUY JKS QUICK DISCO's FOR NEXT TIME. Get me a set too

This video shows that I am not the only one who said that Mopar solution on the rubi is the best. I recon that it's very convenient to push a button but hey gus that's not all.

|jcf||It would be better to wait untill you have some disconnects, the JKS quicker disco's are great, otherwise you could take a lot longer taking the links out & replacing them. Don't disconnect the rear, just the front & if you are going to drive on the road be carefull on corners & go slow. I never drive on the road without the diso's connected but some do. It is easy to re-connect if you are on a level surface & I tie mine up with the big zip ties like Richd was saying|

|Richd1963||I have quick disco's but I have seen others zip Tye them up out of the way. I am not sure what size wrench to un-bolt. Get some large zip-tyes|

Disconnecting the sway bar, manually
So we have a family weekend away coming up, where there are some nice trails which include some minor rock crawling.
I was thinking this would be a good opportunity to get under the Jeep and disconnect the sway bar (stock 2 door - no quick discos or electronic discos).
I did a search on here and couldn't find anything, so - any tips? What kind of tools will I need? I think I read somewhere a big bugger of a screwdriver will be handy.
How about securing it once disconnected? Any difficulties re-connecting?
I'll be giving it a trial run in the next couple of days, but thought it'd be handy being armed with a bit of info.
