nicolas-eric rocker quards are a good thing. but with a 2" BL like mine they are above the body/frame mounting points and do not protect these points.

Thats right, He has the console with a sub and the tube in the back also. The best part about bazooka tubes they save a lot of space. His tube takes up almost no space in the back.

Schmo As far as the nerf bar/step question . . . I would recommend going with something that will add some protection especially seeing that your body is in good shape. I'm a newbie too and put on some BodyArmor rocker gaurds right before a trip to Big Bear and they more than paid for themselves on that run alone! As far as installation . . . was a breeze . . . no drilling, just remove three bolts, line up the rocker guard and put the bolts back in, 2x.

Levinoss - You've got me thinking . . . I have an amp and a couple of 6" Bazooka tubes that I used to have behind the seat of my pick-up . . . Hmmmm!

Triple88a yep... i got 2 6x9s in my sound bar since i hoped they will make a big difference.. no matter what you do they will never sound as good as a sub so.. i'd say get some pod speakers for the front dash and a sub for the trunk and ur good to go
08-04-2007 12:39 PM
Levinoss Well I'll tell you what a friend of mine just has a bazooka tube in the back and his jeep sounds friggen great. Im prolly going to go that same way, its cheap and its easier to hide.

Low profile you could say.

Triple88a i wouldn't say 6 speaker sound bar is worth it.. 2 3 way speakers would sound the same in a stock sound bar..

I'd say get a set of mid/high range speakers/tweeters for the front dash.. I love my setup it sounds amazing and i got 2 sound bars.. one in front one in rear. The rear is connected to the rear output speakers on my pioneer and the front is connected to the front speakers along with the 2 speakers in the dash. It sounds much better than with only 1 soundbar.

The main voice has to be in front and it has to be above chest level. The stock front speakers are mounted by your feet which is a horrible place for mid/highs thats why nearly every system in a wrangler sounds like krap even with the front speakers replaced with better ones.

Levinoss Do you have a picture of your jeep and your jeeps sound bar? Iv never seen a six speaker sound bar.

Sounds great, I miss the sound system in my mustang. =/

Try ebay

I'm a newbie too, but I know lots about speakers in jeeps. I have 10 in my 99 tj. First off, I replaced the factory deck and dash speakers with some high quality stuff from walmart. then I went to Quadratec.com and purchased a 6 speaker sound bar(If you get a good enough deck, it can power the soundbar without an amp). After having that for 6 months, I decided to get some bass. I went to ebay and bought a custom for TJ 2 12" sub woofer box. Then I bought two 600w 12" subs off ebay, and a 1000w amp off ebay. the whole system sounds great, and its really loud. I'm 17 and a junior in high school. I won a school sound system competition this year with my system.

Prices:
Deck- $80 (walmart)
Dash speakers- about $20-30 (walmart)
Speaker bar- about $200 (quadratec.com)
1000w Amp- $70 (ebay)
2 12" sub enclosure- $70 (ebay)
2 12" 600w subs- $50 (ebay)

Total = about $400

Hope this all helped

98JeepDude I'm blown away at the responses. I'm used to posting in forums and seeing nuttin' - apparently that isn't how it works here...

'm hearing from you all cosistantly that this stuff is addictive and I can feel the pull already.

To be honest I'm on my way ou tthe door and only quickly skimmed the responses - will look more later today and most likely will have... more questions!

Thanks again - I really do appreciate the welcome and the suppport Jeepsters!!!

I've taken care of that and there has been a noticeable difference in performance. The only outstading problem I have is that I'm leaking power steering fluid out of the gearboxjust in front of the drivers side front tire.

Where can I find that part? My brother in law is a mechanic so he can install it (heck he might even know where to get the part) but thought I'd ask here. Any guess what I will pay for it?

Next, I've got an Amp in the back that sounds great, but I still need something more from the sound system. Am I limited to sound bars and sound pods or are there other options too? What are the pros and cons of pods versus soundbars versus other solutions?

Factory side steps or nerf bars? I've heard that the nerfs are a pain to install - is this true? Should I just try to find the OEM side steps? Any idea where I can find 'em at a reasonable price?

I'd kinda like to persoanlize my Jeep but I have no idea where to begin. Is there a site that shows all the different looks that people have customized their Jeeps with?

And where can I find out the location of some pretty tame trail rides in Ohio?

OK - I'll stop, I've asked more than my share of newbie questions without doing a ton of my own research. Just thought I'd see if there were willing sources of info here before I went too crazy surfin the web.

Thanks for any help you might be able to offer!!!

first congrats and welcome, I don't know too much about the first two questions (the pump or sound stuff) but I might be able to put my .02 into the third of the nerf bar question. I honestly wish the guy who owned my TJ before me didn't put the nerf's on I much would have rather found some myself and put them on. I'm going to be looking at putting the Blue torch Fabworks rockers w/step tubes on the TJ they run around $219 or so for the set w/out shipping, but these (or some like them 'PSC, Shrockworks, etc') will protect for anything.
some good websites are quadratec, northridge4X4 like mentioned before, but there are many great sites that carry anything you can imagine for your new toy, so look around and price shop.

I do have to warn you as a recient newbie myself this is very addicting, and others on this forum DO NOT HELP with trying to tame the TJ add-on-fever (shocking I know ). so good luck and again, welcome.

04blackunlimited Welcome aboard

For the stereo question I have a headunit that has 3 sets of pre-outs. One is subwoofer and the other 2 are just the normal ones. The way that I hooked it up was my subwoofer to the sub pre-out and then I have no bass running to the stock speakers and everything else to the sub. For stock speakers I am really suprised by the sound
08-02-2007 11:36 PM
lambertdaman they make sub boxes to fit in the trunk area, and they also make boxes that fit inside the back of your back seat. you can get a bracket to change your dash speakers to 5 1/4 that sound better and you have more choices. if you do this stuff cotton pillow stuffing behind them and you will get a better sound.

I get it! You don't care about us you just want to fix your Jeep!

Welcome aboard! I'm not too familiar with pumps like that except that when they get old and rubber wears out they leak and burn fluid.

Walkeraviator ^^^x2 Get quadratec to find what you want, then find somewhere cheaper to buy it. Welcome to the addiction

Triple88a Welcome aboard man, congrats and i'm glad you found us.
Take some time to stop by and check out my 6 speaker sound system made using the stock soundbar in front and custom one in the back.. also got a nice sub in the trunk.

Lurk around the forum for a bit.. moustly around the TJ picture thread and seee what u like and which direction you would like to go.. also i'd recomend going to www.quadratec.com and signing up for a catalog (catalogs are free also many here call it jeep porn)

They have "stages" there and bunch of cool stuff to look at. Prices are pretty high but dont worry much about that.. usually stuff can be found cheaper at other places.

Enjoy your stay in the forum man.

2much Yeah on the sound system front, there are some neat brackets ( I'm looking for the link right now ) that you use to replace the long dash speakers with circular ones (more options) and then if you already have a good amp, I would suggest just putting some hotter speakers in the sound bar, and then maybe upgrade your wiring ( audiobahn )

As far as nerf bars or oem steps, I would say go nerf bars.

Just my opinion, and oh yeah, welcome to the board, ?'s are always welcome, I mean talk about jeeps is what we do, without ?'s, it would be kind of boring. Good luck with however you decide to rig out your jeep.

1BLKJP Welcome aboard. We hate newbie's here. Ah, just kidding. Well Scouts doesn't like them but everyone else is okay.

I would say that if you find the TJ Pictures thread here in this section of the forum and just look thru it you will see more pictures of Jeep in your stage then you probably care to. We have them with tube fenders, tube bumpers, nerf bars, side steps, rocker guards, lifts, tires, 2k fender replacements, etc....

As far as the stereo stuff goes I'll have to leave that to some of the members that actually care what their stereo's sound like.

And do you think your steering box is leaking out of the sector shaft seal?
