The 35s are a bit much for the 4 banger if you are on stock gears. Have you crawled under it to check the tags on your pumkin cases? your gear ratio will be stamped on a small metal tag on them. if your 3.73 or higher you should not have to swap carriers for lower gears so your about $400 for both sets of gears. keep in mind that your top speed goes down and rpm up wich means less gas milage. www.grimmjeeper.com/gears.html is very handy you should have the AX-5 transmission for your calculations. As for a tire check www.treadwright.com they have a 315x75x16. I havent run this companys tires yet but have heard very good things about them. Hope that helps, oh and www.jeepforum.com is a wealth of information as well.

|Afkingjay||i though of re gearing i think to a 4.88 if im correct from my resurch... but looking prolly around 1,000$|

Have you thought about re gearing to keep the tires you have?
I agree 33's would be a better choice,Id even drop down to 31's with a 4cylinder.

Also the 285 is a 11.3" wide tire vs 12.5", which if your concerned with pep, would help as well.

My jeep is a 5 speed....thanks for all your help, i live in NY, so not close to TN, the tires i have have half life on them and will most likley sell them to buy new ones,... peepes... thanks for info on tires sizes.. i will look for thoes tonight

285/75R16 is a 32.8" tire, tirerack has many tires in that size, its a common truck tire size.
They also have 2 295/75/R16 tires that would be about 33.4"
Also 265/75R16 or 245/75R16 are 31.5" or 30.5"
305/70/16 is about a 33" as well with multiple tires to choose from

|scgeek12||if your close to chattanooga TN i know where you can get a set of 33X12.50s, ill trade you for those 35s! lol|

|99Wrangler4x4||I run 33/13.5 on my 4 cylinder and did you try Tirebuyers.com? You'll have to recalibrate your speedometer and is it automatic or clutch?|
|03-30-2011 08:21 AM|
|InfernoGirl||Not a lot of tire choices for 16" wheels. That's why you're having problems. And apparently 315/70/16 is not a size that is made. Look into downsizing wheels to a 15 and you'll find plenty of 33x12.5's to choose from...|

Tire questions on my 1st 98 jeep tj
My name is Tony and i just bought a 98 Wrangler for $3800
After hours of searching for some answers i decided to post my own question.
the jeep has a
- 4 inch rough country lift
- pro comp xterrain 315/75/16
My issue is on town roads it is fine, but due to 4cyl high way is sluggish, the person i bought this from must be insane to run 35;s on a 4 banger and I want to change them out. to a 33x12.50x16
I am having difficulty locating a good site to purchase tires and tire rack, and Discount tires keep saying no tires in inventory, What is the p=metric size for ( 33x12.50x16) because my calculation is (315x70x16) is this correct?
again Iím sorry if i sound ignorant, but i am new to the jeep thing switching over from a t100
