Sitting in the driveway - I'll bet it rained a few times.
The Crankshaft Position Sensor (CPS) is on the bellhousing at the top back of the engine.
It has a connector that may have gotten wet and corroded (right under where the hood drips).
Find the CPS, find the connector to it about 8" away - behind and to the right side of the valve cover.
Disconnect the connector - clean the terminals with an electrical cleaner - coat with a thin film of dielectric grease, put it back together.
Simple, fast, easy - and FREE.

|TexasT||I don't think you need to worry about the gas. Unless you put a bunch of junk in with it the jeep will do good. The crank sensor is an electronic device with wires and connectors and could have an intermittent problem. It uses cut outs on the flywheel to determine the crank position. If it's working now...get out there and enjoy.|

|fr87hn||Hello everyone. Over the past few hours, I've thought of something that I should add, as perhaps it has some relevance. When I was getting the two gallons of gas for the jeep, I used a gas can that was in my shed. The cas can that I used had a very little bit of gas left in it before I added the 2 gallons. Is it possible that maybe that very little bit of very old gas could have had something to do with the car starting 1 time and then not the next? Once again, I thank you for your time!|

Intermittent no-start after sitting all winter
Hello everybody! I have searched these forums, concerning my issue, but my situation seems somewhat unique from what I have read in these forums. My 2000 Jeep Wrangler 5-speed 4.0 has been sitting in my driveway since about October. (in total, it sat for about 4 to 5 months) I started it and let it run in early January for about 20 minutes and it started and ran fine. However, I was planning on taking it to the mechanics to get an inspection sticker a few days ago and it would not start at all. Everything seemed fine when I stuck the key in and turned it. When I turned the key, the engine would turn over just as it always has, however, it would just continue to turn over and not start. I noticed that it was very very low on gas, so I ended up adding 2 gallons to it, just to see if it would start. After adding the gas, it still did not start.
However, yesterday afternoon I tried it again and it started up perfectly fine after turning over not even one full time. So, while it was working I brought it to the mechanic so that it could get fixed. He called me today to say that it started up fine for him to drive it into the garage, but that he could not get it to start up again, in order to drive it out of the garage. He said that there was a code concerning a camshaft position sensor and that was the cause of the no-start condition.
My question is, does a camshaft position sensor cause this type of intermittent no-start condition? Are there any other recommendations that I could give to my mechanic, in the event that a replacement camshaft position sensor doesn't correct the problem? The only reason I ask is because in all of the forums I've read, it seems that a camshaft position sensor failure causes a permanent no-start condition until it's replaced. Thank you for your help, and if you need any other details, I will gladly try my best to answer them!
