JoniSPI I live on South Padre Island. You cannot drive on the beach within the city limits but if one drives north through the town to the county park entrance you can drive all the way north on undeveloped beach, to the jetty at Port Mansfield (about 25 miles). There is a fee for the park and depending on the time of year there may be a trash bag deposit which is refunded upon leaving the beach with the provided trash bag returned full.

It is a beautiful beach with many secluded spots great for fishing, beachcombing, shelling, hunting for sea beans, sandcastle building and any other great beach activities. Check out Sopadre.com for deals on rooms. Depending on the time of year you can find lodging for as low as 19.99 a night.

If you decide to visit SPI, please visit some of our great small shops and restaurants, we love our guests and can give you information on what is happening while you are here.

So come on down, have a great time exploring our beaches in your Jeep, respect our dunes and always remember to unlitter! Welcome to SPI!!

Redjeepmormon Here's a photo from San Louise pass. It's legal as long as you have a permit. You can buy them at gas stations near the beach.

danieldlg_13 I believe all beaches on the coast of Texas are ok to drive on. If they are not, they will usually be marked with a sign or blocked off so vehicles can't drive on it. I've been on Galveston to Mustang Beach and Corpus to South Padre Island. I believe that in SPI, the only places will be on the northern part of the beach... correct me if I'm wrong.

DA_RED I go down to Freeport, Clute, Lake Jackson area (about an hour from Houston) and you see tons of Jeeps, trucks, cars etc; pretty much anything to everything on the beaches down here. Especially over by Quintana Park.

And if I remember correctly most of the beaches out here in Texas are legal to drive on. But I haven't been to many, only the one I have mentioned.

Jeeps on beaches in Texas

Is it legal to drive on the beaches in Texas? I am going to the beach and do not want to get a ticket.
