Yes, thanks to your husband for his service, and to you for being supportive of him and his Jeep.
You may seriously consider a new jack with a lift. The stock bottle jack leaves a lot to be desired. I have a 4" lift w/ 33"s and I have a Hi-Lift jack. It's mounted to the roll bars behind the backseat. It's out of the way, top is still functional, and I always have my jack if I need it.

|wolfen||I won;t ask where you are in case it is a security issue, I know it was when I was in, but I will say ......Thank you|

|MPTJ||I would like to just say, it is nice to a wife doing the smalls things for their husbands while they are deployed. I too am deployed and like you my wife has helped build my jeep. It is nice to see another wife doing the same for you husband because speaking for myself it means a lot to us. I know you sacrifice a lot while we are deployed. Good Luck and hope he returns safely. BTW where is he at? Afghan or Iraq and which FOB or COP?|

|wolfen||Firefighterswife. thank you for doing good for a veteran. You may want to invest in a Torin farm jack also, I Don't know if the stock jack will pick it up anymore after a lift, all I did was put 235's on mine and the stock jack wasn't quite enough if I was even 1" off pavement.|

From what I've read, if there IS any benefit its minimal
One thing a snorkel CAN do is pull cleaner air from above and because it's outside the engine compartment the air will be cooler but in all practicality, unless he is planning on fording deep water, they are said to be a pita.
When I first got mine, I wanted one too and did a lot of reading. I read a lot more bad than good. Things like: It gets in the way for removing/replacing the doors, hangs up on trees, bumps into stuff, creates wind noise, had to cut a BIG hole in the Jeep to mount it and so on, sucks in rain.
BUT, if he WANTS one, then that's what he should have. It's HIS Jeep, he should have it the way he wants it to be.

I thought I had heard that a snorkel was a better alternative than a cai, giving better power gains and the added benefit of being able to cross water, even if you never do lol.
Was I misinformed?

|ej_fireman||I recommend the 2" spacers also . I had them on my jeep and it was a difference from stock and I took it offroading and it did very well. Everything was stock except the spacers rims n tires.. I was able to fit 32x11.50x15 easy! Good luck on your choice and becareful not to get ripped off!|

|Kate||doclouie is right about the snorkel. I've only seen about three people who have them who really got the use from them that was intended, The majority of folks put it into the category of "biggest money wasted on a mod I don't like after all"|
|04-01-2011 11:25 PM|
|doclouie||I agree with Kate. What specifically is he going to replace and for how much? A 2" BB, budget boost, aka spacers would do nicely without changing the ride much. Find out exactly what is being done and then come back here and ask if it is in the ballpark before you lay out any money. With a 2" BB you can still run stock shocks and should run you just around $100 for the BB spacers. Unless your husband will be doing a lot of water crossings most people have found a snorkel to be a waste of money. If you really need a snorkel you will need to replace the stock radiator fan if it is a thermal clutch fan with an electric one. Please tell your husband thank you for his service.|

You're a great wife for doing this for him.
Like they've already said, a lift won't affect the power, but bigger tires will
If you're just wanting to clear the tires you could go with spacers.
Something about the statement you made "the guy doing it is going to replace everything while doing it to make it stronger." REALLY set my spidey senses to tingling.
BE CAREFUL who you let talk you into doing what and what you let them sell you. Much too often folks get taken advantage of because they don't know what they are looking for.
When is your hubby coming home?

You my girl are awesome. Thank your husband for serving and thank you for loving a man in the service. The Wiborns
Like the the others said. The lift will not cause a power loss.
|04-01-2011 09:45 PM|
|bjtoth||The power loss comes from the tires, not the lift. A 2" lift won't cause any issues for you. I would recommend a spacer lift. Here's a cheap 2": Teraflex 001341200 - TeraFlex 2" Budget Boost Lift Kit without Shocks for 97-06 Jeep® Wrangler TJ & Unlimited - Quadratec Thanks for the support of your husband.|
|04-01-2011 09:42 PM|
|BLK00TJ||A lift won't take away any power, the tires will do that. Do you have a budget in mind? That'll dictate a lot of the suggestions other might offer.|
|04-01-2011 09:33 PM|
|Firefighterswife||Yeah he will be doing some off-roading! Just dont want to lift it and lose alot of power! Also afraid of getting death wobble if I lift it. the guy doing it is going to replace everything while doing it to make it stronger.|
|04-01-2011 06:54 PM|
|solman||That will be a nice surprise for him. Will he be doing much off roading or does it stay on the street most of the time?|

|Jma20a||i have a '99 with a 2" lift and a set of 31's, there is a bit of power loss on the low end of the rpm's. but isn't enough of a loss to have to re-gear. i was dumb and got a banks exhaust and an intake for it(not worth all the money) they did very little but took my jeep back to what it was like before the larger tires.|

Help please! For husband.
I have a question.... I am trying to get my husbands 2005 6 speed Tj Wrangler 2.5L which has 79,000 miles on it, all fixed up for him before he comes home from Iraq! I have put 265/75/16 Fierce attitude tires on it! It's stock right now, but he is wanting a 2" lift, just wondering with it being a 4 cy if it would be a good idea to do a 2" supsension lift on it since I've put bigger tires on it......dont want to take power away from it! Also getting a snorkel installed!
