It's just common courtesy to wave back at someone if they wave at you but I won't wave at them first. Same goes for any Jeep nowadays that's not a Wrangler (ie the top and doors don't come off). If you wanted a Wrangler you should have gotten a Wrangler. Don't front like you're down.
I will admit that I accidentally waved at an H3 a while back. It just came up out of the blue and fooled me for a sec. I probably made the dude's day.

Sometimes Jeep owners forget they are not in their Jeep and wave by habit. When occupants of non-Jeep vehicles wave, returning the wave is optional, but usually a good idea.
Yeah, sometimes while driving my Patrol car I wave at a Jeep and I get the Oh snap! what the heck did I do wave.

I learned about acknowledging other vehicle owners when I purchased my 88 Porsche 928S4. Porsche owners flash their headlights at each other because we drive too fast to take our hands of the steering wheel.
I get waves from other Mini Cooper owners when I drive her.
I wave at all Wranglers and will return any Jeep wave that I get. I do notice that very few JK owners wave back though.

In our group, Houston Jeep People we have a member who drives a liberty. He knows how to drive that thing off road and keeps up with us.

When I got my TJ I was told the wave was only a Wrangler thing. I wave all the time, I don't get butt hurt if someone doesn't wave back. I did get waved at once by a Liberty and I too was really surprised that it happened, I did wave back though but it was delayed and he probably didn't see it.
I wave from my wifes minivan and she always makes fun of me when she sees me do it. This is why I always wave back no matter what the "wave initiator" is driving, he/she may be a Wrangler driver and it has just become instinct to do it.

I wave at Wranglers and whoever waves at me...some people take it so seriously...I just think it's a fun little extra that comes with being a Jeep owner.
And to all you ripping on the JK owners...just keep waving, they'll get it eventually

I'm not going to lie.. I'm one of those "Elitist Jerks". I only wave to other Wranglers. Well, except I sometimes don't wave at YJs. (Sorry, their kinda like the bastard step-children of Jeeps... or as I call it.. "the dark period of Chrysler history") I said sometimes though, I'm a girl.. I change my mind a lot. Oh, and my brother.. I don't wave at him at all. Well, at least not with the whole hand.
But on a funnier note, I yelled at my husband (and smacked him in the back of the head) for NOT waving at other wranglers. Now in protest, he has started to wave at other Yaris's when in his car. /rollseyes.

I've not read all the posts in this thread.....
Someone waves to me, I always wave back.
Whether I'm in my jeep, subie or wr250r.
Whether the waver is in a similar, superior, inferior vehicle or not.
I judge not, will always wave back, regardless.....
Now, as far as initiating a wave, don't get me started *grins*

|Aaronkushner||Biffman, I am not against all the nice things in a vehcile I am not and to each his own. If you like it thats all that matters. I have a 370Z that has all the bells and whistles to me thats what a car is for not a Jeep. Again I have no problem with waving I dont, but I like to think the wrangler wave is for wranglers you know. And yes im including the CJ's you all know what I mean.|

I got waves today from a guy driving an F150, a lady walking her dog and a guy in a Civic and I waved back to all of them. Maybe the were admiring my Jeep, maybe they were just being friendly. I always take it as a compliment when somebody thinks enough of my Jeep to acknowledge it, or to just to be friendly.
Aaron...you would hate my JK...it has leather seats, power locks and windows and the navigation system.

|Mr. Sinister||when i'm driving my 55, i wave at every single old car or truck that i see. 99% of the time, i get a wave back.|

|Aaronkushner||i dont get all of you, where does it stop? so we have to wave now to Libertys, the compass etc. Look if your in a vette do you wave to a porshce? no. A Jeep is not a Jeep sorry. Wrangler are wranglers for a reason. I am against it sorry, not to sound like a snob but seriously where does it stop. You are telling me the person driving the new Grand Cherokee is a Jeep enthusiast? Or if they have a Complass that they are enthusiasts? All of us who have Wrangler whether it be a CJ, YJ, TJ or JK we have a passion for JEEP. I am even against the power windows, door locks, the 2011 with the heated seats and mirrors, give me a fckn break! I have had 3 Jeeps and I would never and will never understand why you would get a Wrangler with power options. NO WAY! Jeep is going down hill in my opinion. I think the JK is the last of the real Jeeps and even as a JK owner I find the JK to be a little too civilized. Just my two cents.|

So, if someone takes the time and energy to extend a friendly gesture, we need to stop and ask if they are worthy of our attention. Maybe his wave had nothing to do with his Liberty, but more to do with your Wrangler. Maybe this person has a killer Wrangler at home, but just happens to be driving another member of the family's Liberty. I have six cars. For most of this week I have been driving my daughter's VW Bug. I did some work to it, and I want to make sure everything is OK, plus I had the driveway sealed this week and some of the other cars are stuck in the garage. If I were driving that goofy Beetle and saw a Jeep I might wave, then someone would be on here saying "You would not believe the nerve of this goofy old guy in a Beetle waving at me". As a society we have way too many things to divide us, we do not need to be inventing more ways. Unless a person has too much chrome on their Jeep, that is a different story.

"RESPECT ALL JEEPS." Wave at all of 'em.
And if someone else in another vehicle waves, wave back. Perhaps they are thinking of getting one.
