|Beer30||I have the Bestop tire carrier. It works good enough, but I think I'm going to swap it for a bumper/swing out combo sometime. Mainly because I want to do the fold-down tailgate mod, but also because it's not really easily compatible with corner armor.|

|armyRN||I got a 3/16" thick steel plate, and mounted the factory spare tire carrier to the plate, and then mounted the plate to the tailgate so that the spare tire carrier was now 2.25" higher. I also put additional bolts through the factory spare tire carrier to the steel plate, and additional bolts through the steel plate (and tailgate) for additional strength. I had to shim the rubber bumpers a little bit so they would contact the tire. It's worked out well so far.|

|Mahoo||I scrapped my tire carrier and now the tire rests where the back seat use to be.|

The stock tire mount was not designed for that weight.

|Bendinel||Do you know if the oversized tire carriers (ie. from bestop) are compatible with the spare tire bike and ski racks?|

|dpc46||I don't know if it's the best option in the world but I undid the tire mount and used washers to pull the mount a bit off the door and did the same to the light also to raise it alittle. When I put my 33s back on that was just enough to pull the tire off the bumper|

listen to Gus.
That non-bumper tire rack is a good option, but some people don't care for it. You definitely need to get it off of the door though. The hinges will eventually crack or buckle.

If your tire is no longer butted up against the rubber snubbers on your tailgate I suggest you get it off there before you bend your gate. You could raise the light or remove it and extend the snubbers and get away with it for a while. Otherwise search for a rear tire carrier bumper combo, or one like the Bestop carrier which does not require a new bumper. Or take the tire off, ditch the back seat, and throw it in the tub.
And welcome to WF!

Spare Tire Rack for 33" Tire
I just increased my tire size to 33" Dick Cepek Raidal Fun Country II Tires (33x12.50 R15) and the spare would not fit on the spare tire rack in the back of my wrangler TJ 2003. I threw a Teraflex Spare Tire Relocator on the back just to get it on but was wondering what is available as a more permanent option. The tire is now covering the center brake light in the back. I want something that I can also hook up to a ski rack as well. - Jordan
