If you really want full width axles .Basically you would want a hp44 out of a late 70's ford f250 and they are 9 inches wider plus the rim offset is a total of a foot wider then stock. These are the good d44 fronts with the the 1/2 walled tubing. These axles are a 8 on 6.5 lug pattern and are getting very hard to find where I live. I know a couple of the f150's pre 78 were the same thick axle tube with the hp diff but can't remember off hand. Those will have a 5 on 5.5 pattern. The d60 heavy, expensive and you lose ground clearance! These axles really are over kill for anything under a 38" tire.
As I was saying before the cheapest, easiest swap that will get the job done and have plenty of after market upgrades are the d44 out of a xj, mj or tj, and a 8.8 out of a ford explorer for the rear. The hp30 out of a xj or waggy 44 for the front.

thats why i was asking how much wider they are... i mean, i can fix the fenders either way. wider tires=wider base= more stability. im just looking for good inexpensiveish axles people! no need to rub elbows. i just need suggestions/facts.
and I would LOVE to do some more serious off roading. ive done a little bit. i just like the experience and its fun as hell. just didnt have money to fix the jeep back then. now, uncle sam is paying me. i want a Very versatile and reliable 4x4. that looks cool to boot!

Because the d44 is plenty strong enough for 35" tires and you can buy cromo shafts cheaper for a d44. Due to not needing a c-clip eliminate kit. The op said 35's why would you want full width axles with 35" tires. I could understand if we were talking about a hard core rock crawler, but I kinda doubt that! The reason I said I wouldn't is because it looks kinda stupid when you only have an inch of tire under the fender. And if you actually like driving the thing down dirt roads or two tracks or any offroad park where you are cruising over two miles an hour having more tire under the fender then outside it. I don't really care for stones being thrown at me or my windows!

that said, all of these answers so far are very good and thank you. i will consider them (all the axles mentiond).
i ask these questions to lay the ground work. im in the military and not in the location where tj will be getting worked on. havent seen the 1/2 and 1 ton axles my dad was telling me about. says they were like $250 a piece i think. and the guy builds rock crawlers... it will be a daily driver for now, so needs to be within regs for road. but i dont want to go out one weekend, and break somethin expensive; like an axle... and why not go with a wider AND stronger axle if it costs about the same, or less... dynatrac axles are very expensive, and G2... im rambling i think. thanks again.

|Irongrave||I really hate sounding like a dick but if these are the kinds of questions your asking about build your jeep your not ready to make the jump to 1 ton axles. I want to say stock Jeep axles are in the 60inch wms to wms range but i dont know off the top of my head. For a 35 in tall tire an alloyed HP30 from an XJ and a 8.8 from an explorer will be more then fine. The XJ axle will bolt in no modfactions to the housing. the 8.8 is a few brackets and some brake lines. No need to worry about being too wide running 17in wheels (need 17s to clear most brakes and hubs on 1 ton axles) Then when you've been in the sport a while and learn your rig and what you want it do then make the jump up to 1 ton axles. FYI even used 60s are not cheep. around here they run between 500-1000 per axle then you need to build them with gears shafts brakes ect so you get close to $3-4000 per axle really fast.|

|rda616||I wouldn't go full width axles! Just get a d44 out of an xj, tj, or mj and weld brackets on! You can get a ford 8.8 out of an explorer, some superior shafts and a locker. Either would be fine for a 35" tire. The hp30 is good for up to 35's with good shafts and sleeves. A d44 out of a waggoneer is good for up to a 37" tire with good shafts. All either 60.5 wms to wms or or for the 8.8 about an inch narrower which with the super 88 kit will be 60.5! You are going with a taller wider tire and will need a offset rim with less back space. This will give you a 4" wider then stock stance in it's self.|

And you think it would be cheaper to get D44 or even a D60 for the rear out of a truck, or whatever, instead of getting brand new D44 or D60 built for the jeep? New axles like that seem pricey... and they are'nt "full width"|

|Irongrave||if your going to take the time and spend the money to swap in axles don't run 35s. A front dana 44 is not a whole lot stonger then the Dana 30 (same shafts and outers as a 30 just a bigger ring gear) so IMO its not worth it. Dana 60s are more or less the norm but you need to run 37s with them to be practical. Full sized axles start at 65 inches from wms to wms and can run all the way up to 80+ inches wide. keep reading on here and other forums before you make the jump to tons. a well built HP30 from an XJ and a ford 8.8 from an explorer will hold up to 35s with no real issue and they are a lot cheaper then 1 ton axles|

got a 2003 tj. want to put a RK 5.5" X factor plus coil over system lift kit on it. but im gonna need new axles, for 35" tires.
thinking about getting full size (or full width) axles. D44s from a pickup or something.
So, how much wider are the full size axles Vs. the STOCK D30/35 on the TJ?
i want to do this for the wider, more stable stance, and it seems the axles are cheaper than getting new D44s for the TJ. i know this will require more fab, but it will pay off. But how much fab goes into it? i think ill have a guy back home is goin to do it... he builds jeeps. hes just outside of El Paso, TX. in New Mexico actually.
and anyone know the diff between half ton and one ton axles off a FORD?
