|Jerry Bransford||Your transmission requires either ATF+3 or (better) ATF+4. Nothing else but that. It's the wrong stuff if it doesn't say ATF+3 or ATF+4 on the front label.|

|PTWarrior66||I'll try that, but what is the ATF?|

|Jerry Bransford||Have you checked if it has enough ATF in it? The transmission ATF level has to be checked in a certain way... engine and transmission fully warmed up, engine running, shift through the gears then shift into Neutral (set the parking brake!), then check its level with the rear-most dipstick on the passenger side of the engine. Don't check the level with it shifted into Park.|

My 1998 TJ Automatic Trans is stalling
This has happened twice now. The first time I tried to put it in 4wd and it stalled.
Now today, just backing out of my driveway, I shifted to drive and the engine died...I turned the key and it turned right back on, and I drove it all around going 50+ just to see what would happen, it worked fine.
I got it about a month ago and it's been sitting and maybe has 40 total miles on it in that time, I haven't touched the fluids or anything since I bought it.
What could be the issue and is this a major concern
