TJe0454 got them primed, painted and installed. looks great. on the left side there is a gap between the slider and the tub (right under "Jeep"). other than that, no issues whatsoever. really simple install; just time-consuming. ill post pix soon

How do they look? I ordered mine without any side tubes to save a few pounds.
It looks like I posted at the same time as Jerry, I would obviously follow his painting instructions. Rustolem does have a tendency to run if you pause in one spot too long. I haven't used Krylon, I may try it, either way, I'd say you can't go wrong with 3 or more light coats. I plan to lay 2-3 coats of primer, lightly scuff it when its dry and spray 3 light coats of satin black. Post some details on the install if you don't mind, I'd like to know if there are any tricks to make the install easy, thanks!

Phil05LJ Who did you order them from? I ordered a set from Brooks CC a few days ago and they will come bare metal. I plan to prime then paint them with a can of satin black Rustoleum. I've always had good results with that paint.

Jerry Bransford Self-etching primer is always the best way to go for steel. However, you're not going to find it at your local Home Depot, Lowes, etc., your best bet to find it is to go to an automotive paint supply store.

However, I've never bothered doing that since I realize I'll be having to touch it up later anyway so I just use standard Krylon primer and standard Krylon satin black for those types of parts. I used to use Rustoleum but switched to Krylon which, for me, goes on a lot better with less tendency to run.

Make sure you don't try to put additional coats on after the initial 3 or so hour window given on the can's directions. If it's after that 3 hour window, you have to wait 3-4 days for it to completely cure before you can spray any more paint on. Spraying during that 3-4 day curing period will immediately wrinkle and ruin the paint job.

bumper install

hey guys. so i should be getting my rock sliders in the mail today. i got um off ebay from a guy that was reccommended on WF. anyways, it comes bare metal and will obviously need to be painted. my question is: what paint should i use and should i use a self etching primer? i want this thing to look good and match my front and rear bumpers (satin black). also, are there any tips that would make this install easier?
