|4BigXNick4||Ya im definitely going take it out soon and see how it runs. I just have to find a spare tire since the set i bought didnt come with one. I can already tell the difference on the road. I think our exclusion year for all vehicles is at pre 75 if im not mistake. Not sure if there are any other special exclusions for later year vehicles. And ya good news that EFI doesn't show.|

Take that thing out on a trail and see how it does with 31s, you'll be surprised.

Ya you got the idea a budget trail ready wrangler =). I'll look into getting the motor fuel injected. Is that going to affect how my car is going to get smogged since i live in Cali?
If its normal that the leaf springs are stiff then i wont rush into changing them out. The jeep runs a lot smoother now anyhow since i replace the 33" tires it used to have on it with 31s. I can finally use my 5th gear on the highway =). At this point just looking for any recommended mods to improve on a (for the most part) stock jeep.

Parts are still plentiful for your YJ and they are relatively cheap. The 258 ci 4.2 liter 6 is a good engine, it's down fall is the factory emissions, they went overkill on it, vacume lines here and there...and the carb can be a pain but they do make a fuel injection conversion kit for it, I think Holley makes it, it's pricey, I'd guess around $1000.
Leaf sprung Jeeps are stiffer than coil sprung TJs but they still perform great. I had a 90 YJ that I installed add-a-leafs to lift it a little, I blame my current neck problems on how bad that thing rode after that! A good quality lift with good shocks can solve the ride issue for you. Perhaps you could find more info in the YJ tech page on this site for more advise.
You don't need to go out and spend thousands of dollars to make your Jeep trail worthy. With good tires and good decisions, you can have just as much fun and go just about anywhere you want to go, within reason of course. If you wanted to do a few upgrades to enhance what you have, I would suggest a set of front sway bar disconnects. They will allow for more wheel travel when disconnected, if your springs are stiff enough you can leave the front sway bars off on the road, it will soften the ride but you'll have a little more body roll. I'd also suggest a Warn winch, 8000 pound is affordable and pays for itself the first time you out stuck on a trail alone!
Thats all i can think of, best of luck on your decision!

To Jeep or not to Jeep
Hey everyone, finally registered to a forum to get some help on what to do with my jeep!
Anyway I've got a 87 wrangler that I've had for almost 2 years. My intentions for this jeep were to fix it up and make it a decent road/off-road machine. After a many months of trying to get the registration up to date and title in my name the whole project kinda fell to the side and I ended up purchasing a few other toys. So time has passed, I now have all of the paperwork in order and other toys just about paid off. I'm not sure if I should sell it or put some money into it and relive some good ol childhood memories off roading with my old man.
It's a straight 6 with only 80k miles on it. It runs ok, a few hiccups. It has a salvage title but the damage done to it wasn't bad. I know a lot of ppl try to downplay their salvage title but the hanger that holds the front right leeve spring broke off and they salvaged it. The damage was fix and the car was back to normal. It has a lift on it but the suspension is stiff as Hell so I know that's gunna need some work. Other than that the car is stock.
Should I sell it? If I keep it what should I do with it as far as upgrades? I won't be doing any crazy rock crawling off-road stuff but I do enjoy going up to big bear and doing some of the trails.
As far as availability of parts for this specific jeep, am I gunna have trouble? Would I be wasting my money? I've been told that selling and buying a newer fuel injected jeep would be better but ill likely not be purchasing another jeep if I sell. This is my only chance.
If you have any suggestion of how/where to start working on this let me know. I need the car running while being worked on. Thank you for any help
