|DaveinHouston||I've got 4.88s on my YJ with 5 speed, 4.0 and 33s. It's perfect off and on road. I'm running 5.13s on my '03 Rubi with a manual tranny and 35s. It's good but "feels" a little lower than the YJ.|

|IslandTJ||I have an auto transmission and I am running 33" tires. When I re-geared, I chose the 4.10 ratio, it is spot on (get on the freeway and off-road) for me and I daily drive my Jeep.|

Where Jeeps are concerned, we are the experts. For your 4.0L engine, 5-speed, and 33" tires, go with 4.56.
I made the same mistake 12-14 years ago you are trying to do by listening to those tech who are recommending 4.10 for your 33" tires. Within several days of installing the 4.10 gears, I knew I had made a mistake by ignoring my friend's recommenations for 4.56 and instead going with 4.10 because I was afraid the rpms would be too high with 4.56. Big mistake.

|Oregonwolf||Not intending to highjack this thread, but I have the same setup as Hendog. Do you only need to swap out the gears or do you need to change out carriers to? I am assuming that Hendog has the D30/D35 also?|

I have a 97 Sport 4.0L w/ manual transmission 33" tires and 4.56 gears. I run 2500 RPM@ 65 mph.
This is a perfect set up for getting your Wrangler back into the correct rpm range for the 4.0L.

4.56' i get 3000 rpm but i have 33's and 4.88's but I can haul ass up I-70 so its worth it, maybe 35's next year. I also have a 6 speed manual. 4.10's and 33's not so great but better than 33's and 3.73's which is what I had.
Checkout grimjeeper.com and put in your values, it will show the rpm's and at what speed.

4.10's or 4.56's for 33's???
OK, I got my 3" Zone Lift installed (awesome!) and my 33" Mickey Thompson Baja MTX (even awesomer!) installed.
It has come to my attention that I have 3.07 gears. I'm not one of these sheep that thinks that just because the guys on the forum say I need different gears that I should get them but the 3.07's are just too low, or high, or whatever.
I'm assuming that 3.73's would just take me back to stock so I think I want 4.10's. But many people say that I should get 4.56's. I DO NOT want to be running at 3k RPM's @ 70mph the whole way to work so I don't think that I want 4.56's. Also when I offroad I am almost always in 4 Low.
What say you?
