Do NOT buy tires from Q-tec.....find a local Goodyear dealer and go to them. They will work with you on prices and they will also match any online price you find. I just bought 5 35" Goodyear MTR w/Kev for $220 dollars each. That includes the price of tax, shipping, mount, balance. Also got about $50 in rebates...not much but still savings.
Oh and also got lifetime balancing. And I asked specifically how many times can I bring it in for balance? Is there a limit? The guy said whenever you want...bring it in every oil change if you like. Twice a month..once a month..whatever.

I have ran GY ATS 31", MTR 33", BFG KM2 32", GY Territory 33" (canadian tire exclusive), and now GY MTR with Kevlar 37".
I have to say the 37" is my favorite.... MTR-k is light for a 37", is quite on the road comparatively (BFG was louder), road traction dry and wet is great. I have yet to give a test offroad with the MTR-K as I just got them... keep you all posted.

|Greenman||Thanks...not only am I now considering the Mickey Thompsons, but I'm also considering spending the extra money on 16" wheels. Life is just full of tough choices, ain't it? Lol|

If I was to go to 35 or bigger I would consider going to a 17" rim. The only reason I didnt in past years was the huge price difference between a 16" wheels/tires verses a 17". And I really dont see myself going to 35 or bigger for many years.

|Greenman||Thanks for the input guys. Scoob, your post made me think of another question. I have 17inch wheels on my jeep now, what kind of mayhem should I expect if I go down to a smaller wheel? Did you go smaller or have you always had the 16inchers on your jeep? Do you know anyone who runs 15inch wheels on theirs? Would it be wise to stick with 17 or 16s?|

I would take the MTZ's over the other 2 choices in a heartbeat. I am on my second set now and about to go to my third. First set I ran for 40K miles and sold them for 300 with a lot of tread left. The set I am running now has 47K on them and still have 11/32 of tread left. I thought long and hard about going to the MTR K next month. But after wheeling with club members who have them I decided against it and will go back with the trusty MTZ one more time.
The MTR's did just as good as the MTZ in every aspect of off roading. But both guys that own them said they were not as good on the road, especially in the snow.Which in the Nebraska/Iowa area is about 1/3 of our year
So between the MTR being stiffer, much heavier and not as good on the road it made my choice simple.
*****All these experiences are based on 16" tires, both the MTZ and the MTR's. I have not owned a 15" tire for many years.*****

|Rogerg||Something to think about is the Cooper STTs are the same as the MTZs with the exception of the sidewalls.Same company who makes them and just a tad cheaper.|

|Greenman||Thanks Roger. The Mickey Thompsons are creeping up my list! I like that you mentioned how much they kick ass on the road as well as off. I can't wheel very often because I live on long island, ny where there are no legal wheeling locations... :-( But I am dying to get up to raush creek in the near future to put my jeep to the test. I have the MTRs on my TJ and used to have the MTZs on my JK.Currently im running BFG KM2 because ive heard lots of good thing about it.Personally i would go back to MTZ for they are awesome on road and wicked on the rocks.
They do chunk easy on the rocks but wear like iron on road.I got tired of waiting for it to wear out and sold them on craigslist.
Out of the 3 i mentioned and owned my preference would be MTZ,KM2,MTR

|Greenman||I've been checking out lots of different sites, trying to price out the best deal. Desertrat.com has some amazing deals on tire and wheel packages, but they don't have the duratracs. Quadratec sells the duratracs for about $200 per tire. Thanks for your opinion, I'll probably repost this thread earlier in the day when not so many people are asleep|

|Afkingjay||I got the MT baja mtz... they.were cheeper.. what.site are you looking at? Also road noise is not bad... good grip in mud... and rocks... and gravel... no sand around me so not sure... I liked my previous pro comp xterrain just as much... just wanted something new|

Goodyear mt/r kevlar? Mickey thompson mtz?
I'm currently engaged in the agonizing process of choosing new tires for my JK. The stock tires are a tad over 32", but they're only 10" wide. I'd like to get a nice set of 33x12.5x15s. I've already done some homework and am leaning towards duratracs. However, does anyone have any experience running the Goodyear mt/r with Kevlar? Are they worth the extra weight? Also, if anyone has experience with the Mickey Thompson mtzs, I would love to hear about it. I don't care about road noise, but I do care about the hit to my fuel economy, tread wear, and overall performance. Sorry for the novel.
