Departed Longmont at 4:30 AM. Arrived at trailhead around 5:15, and didn't bother to disconnect discos, got up to the "squeeze"? and backed off, found a level spot, and disconnected.. Was up on top just at sunrise, and got these images. Now my wife and I have to choose our vacation next year,, 2 nights 3 days in the Maze; along with 5 nights in the Needles, all in May,, OR 7 nights at Rocky Mountain NP beginning Labor Day. Is the week after labor day too risky for heavy snow at high elevations? We have 'till the 11th of July to get our reservations in for Moab... (on the White Rim Trail, & at Potato Bottom Campsite) Rockies or Canyonlands? Decisions,,,, Decisions,,,,,

|Rubicondon53||Ended up going Thursday at daybreak. Nice little ride.. Nothing too hard at all, and not very much mud... A very nice intro to Rocky Mountain Wheelin'|

|Rubicondon53||Hopefully it will dry out by next wednesday, if it's too muddy, I'll just turn back.. Mud can be fun,,, once in a very great while, and going through some on occasion is OK, but mud for the sake of mud? I take better care of my equipment... Lateron.|

|Geoff@Bestop||Your big issue is going to be mud. It's been raining for a straight week now, which is a HUGE amount of rain for Colorado. Yesterday was a very heavy downpour right in those foothills. I wouldn't go up there right now, but then, if I wanted to run in mud, I'd have stayed in Oregon.|

|Rubicondon53||Thanks, Geoff , good info, and I've bookmarked that website.. Im runnin 33s lockers, extra armor, etc.. I'm only looking for mild obstacles, as I must drive it back to PA, afterward... If it looks to tough, I'll just go around it.. The best we have back east is Rausch Creek, and we've done most all the black trails there.. See my vid on YouTube, rubicondon04,,, Later , and thanks again!!|

Lefthand is open. It might be muddy as heck right now, since it's been raining here for four days.
Some of the side trails at the top are evidently closed, due to the fire. But the main loops of Lefthand are all open.
This is probably the best trail you can hit right now. Anything further up, even the stuff right on the Peak-to-Peak is going to be snowy. Here's a nice web site with local trail info.
We use Lefthand as a "backyard trail" all the time, and it's fun. We take visitors up there a bunch, and there are spots we can scare them. Will it challenge you? I do not know. That's up to you. Last year a guy was goofing around in his truck on some rocks near the top, and ended up rolling down the hill. The truck is still there, what's left of it. He didn't make it, but what's left of him was carted off.
All these trails can bite you.
It's not my personal favorite, but it's close and open year round.

|Rubicondon53||The 25th... Back in the late 70's I lived in Wheateidge, , had a 74 CJ, and was fired from 3 jobs over the summer of '77 .. We'd leave on Friday afternoon, and not make it back in time for work on Monday.. . always ended up lost somewhere on the WS... Those were the days!!|

Hi all , I'll be traveling to Longmont this week, and will have one day to go wheelin.. Are the lefthand canyon trails open yet? From what I can tell the higher trails will still be snowed in.. Are the trails up in lefthand worthy of my time ? Maybe there are better ones? Not looking for damage, just some medium challenges , scenery, hiking, etc... Thanks......
