harry61 I had a similar problem. The PO had snapped off the locking tail on the electrical lead to the coil. This lead would vibrate loose just enough to allow a momentary break in the electrical flow, causing the vehicle to stall momentarily while driving. eventually the connection loosened itself enough that the TJ would stall completely and not restart (imagine doing this at 65mph on the loop!). Tracking this down was a Bravo. I eventually discovered it with some knowledgable help and zip-tied the lead to the coil.

Hope this helps.

hazmat try the tueup first if you haven't had one in 30,000 or so miles or even if you did it still would't be a bad idea to pull them and check your gap. clean air and fuel filter are amust. i know most chrysler products the fuel filter is in the tank. not sure about wranglers.

bad00jeep especially if your going up hills, the fuel pump might be clogged or going bad and is having problems pumping enough fuel to the motor

bad00jeep I have a '00 tj with a 4.0 also and when i did my tune up my ruff idle and little engine sputters stopped. I did the tune up around 20k which i thought was too early but it seemed to fix the problem.

Now if you tested the jeep and it said that it is the fuel pump, just replace the fuel pump. Most likely that is your problem, it does sound fuel related.

hope that helps a little...

mswilder i have had the same problem in my 97 4 cyl, and it will just drop RPMS and loose power but only for a split second and resume, i just seems annoying because it will do it 2-3 times with in about a 4 sec period but it will only do all of this every once and awhile. but i have changed cap, roter, wires, plugs, and coil, even put a 4.0 throttle body on and it still does it. i havent figured it out so if you do please tell me.

Forgot to add....

I forgot to add that fact that my check engine light used to come on prior to this issue starting. that was 4 months ago though. now there is no check engine light and the issue is getting worse and more noticable.

Jeep cuts off and guages drop

Hello all,
I have a 2000 TJ 4.0. I am having some issues with it which started about 4 months ago although now it only seems to be getting worse. Here are my issues: On cooler days not cold my jeep will cut off (cold days it does do the same) . I notice this more when i am traveling on an interstate with a incline to it. while in fifth gear and climing the incline i accelerate more but as i do the jeep will cut off and the gauges will will fall as well. It will only cut off for seconds and then regain its normal speed. Although fifth gear is not the only one i have noticed this problem in it is also noticable in 4th as well. This passed weekend after coming back from a trip i was rounding a turn and gearing down as i enter a small town as i was dropping to third it back-fired. this is the first time that this has occured. I just had it checked out on the computer and it came up with have a fuel pump issue but i wanted to ask fellow jeepsters before i trusted the computer. i hope i provided enough information to this issue. Thanks for you help
