If that's the case, then I am sure that's what he means. Find the bumper you want within reason, and send him the bill.

I have a sister who is very well off, and she is just like that.

kik I would get a price off of e-bay let's say at $100, which that's what they really go for. Show your neighbor and maybe add $50 for the install. Get your $150 and keep the neighbor happy, feeling like he didn't get screwed and then order your off road rear bumper. I know if a neighbor I had treated me like that I would appreciate it and felt as if he was being honest. At $500 you'll make him feel like you took advantage of the situation. Not cool.

rics1997 Many keep the rear bumper so it is a commodity. The price in an accident is for a new bumper and a new rear bumper is expensive, stock or not. As long as he is paying less then the cost of a new one then he isn't being ripped off. I would hate if I was in an accident and the insurance person said, well I can get this off E-bay for this amount. I assume this is being friendly as not to involve insurance and getting the neighbor a wreck on his record. That is worth more to some people.

If your neighbor gives you $500 and sees you rolling around on a fully loaded steel bumper with a tire carrier, he might be thinking you screwed him.

Maybe try showing him a quote from the dealer?

Btw I plan on going with the smitty xrc rear when I upgrade, so I guess I would recommend it.
I agree. Come clean. The dealer quote will clear things up then tell him you are opting for aftermarket.

Benjy If you want to keep the neighbor as a friend, I'd be honest with him about the market for pull-off JK bumpers and show him a few craigslist ads or have him do his own research, ask for an extra $50 for labor for the bumper install and go get the bumper you like. Don't have the tire carrier on my Rugged Ridge XHD bumper, but I do like it. It has the bolt holes to add on the carrier later.

smaxberry I have been eyeing the AEV rear bumper. The only thing I don't care for on that bumper is the light above the tire. If I do get one, I'll probably find a way to make the third light stay a red brake light.

Grog Hard to say. For 35" tires a tire carrier such as the Or Fab is a good solution. They really aren't good for larger tires, so many just get a bumper/tire carrier combo. Even if they never plan to go to a larger tire, you may not want to rule out that option down the road.

Smittybilt is an option. I have about 60 guys in my 4x4 club, and many use the Smittybilt. Most are quite happy. Many though have problems with the latching mechanism, and on one of the rigs it takes two people to close the tire carrier. One to hold it down, one to work the latch.

The cheapest way to go is to get a spare tire carrier, and then find a take off bumper from another JK. Could probably find it for $50 or less. Sounds nuts, but for every rig with a new rear bumper the take off is sitting in a garage somewhere. The supply far exceeds the demand.

which rear bumper??? help!!

i have a 2011 red wrangler unlimited 4 door, This morning my neighbor backed up into my jeep scratching and cracking my rear bumper, only thing damaged is my bumper and he agreed to pay for whatever it cost to replace, i worked it out it comes out to about 500$ to replace. Thing is i was gonna replace the bumpers to metal bumper so should i just get a regular rear metal bumper or put in the extra money and get a metal rear bumper with tire carrier? im putting 35 inch tires on the truck and not sure if its better to just get oversized tire carrier or just get a bumper with the carrier attached to it,, also anyone know any nice bumper?? i was looking at the smitty rear but i heard bad things about it.. i have to get this bunper ordered today so havent had a chance to look myself. thanks!
