AquaGary Might be a little late but I had a similar problem on my Minnesotan weathered '98 tj. I took it to a basic weld shop and had 1/4 steel welded in a 'U' on both driver and passenger sides. $500 total. Its the cheap way but stronger than the tack weld.

4JeepNuts Thanks for this thread. I have a '99 TJ with the same issue the drivers side floor pan was rotted and the more I cleaned I discovered the body mount was bad too. I ordered the pan and was trying to work out how to duplicate the torque box. I'm going to call classic in the morning to order one.

Floor Supports / Torque Boxes

I also purchased the supports from Classic Enterprises. They are awesome. Unfortunately, I cant use them on mine because of the 4 door conversion. Where mine went bad, they are completely flat and the Classic ones perfectly contour the factory floor shape. So, if anyone wants, I have a set to get rid of. They cost me $187.00 shipped.

I found a company thats makes what you want called classic enterprises speak to the owner Lamonte. You need torque box floor supports

Rexalot No. You can get the whole floor pan for just under $1000. That is all Chrysler/Jeep has to offer. I haven't located anything aftermarket. I suppose a "donor" off a salvage/wrecked jeep tub would be a possibility.

I haven't attempted to patch mine yet. May be pointless.

After spending a weekend recently putting in new shockes and replacing the rotted brake lines I found in the process I took a GOOD LOOK at the underside of my '99 jeep. I think my frame will be rotted out in a few short years anyway. I'm guessing it is half the original thickness in places, rotting from the "hidden" inside out. I was blowing out "chunks" of metal out of the ends of the frame rails after I decided to put my fingers through the holes in the frame, felt around, and discovered the loose stuff . Drain holes in the frame bottom and some paint when it was new in between the rails (frame dipped) from the factory would've helped. You think??

Guess if they built 'em to last we wouldn't buy new. Curse you, Chrysler/Jeep!

sfthunter Im a newb on this forum but I just posted a similer question for my 98 TJ. have you had any luck in finding them. im about ready to start building and marketing them my own damn self!

Rexalot The shop I took the Jeep to specializes more in rust repair of "muscle" cars and such, done some work on a few "CJ" jeeps, but has not done any rust repair on the TJ. He did say if I couldn't find anything he could certainly cut out the bad areas, bend something up and weld it in. It's all about the cost, time and effort. In his opinion it would be cheaper for me if I could find that part then for him to make something etc...

I did hit the local jeep dealer. All that is available across the counter is what is shown in the illustration above. The counter man suggested I try an aftermarket source for the whole pan as I could get it cheaper.

Maybe I'll send a request to crown to... I hadn't thought about doing something like that.

Red Neckerson I have the same problem. I contacted an off-road shop in Topeka that said they could replace the rusted area and that is is a common problem area.
I'm really suprised that the body shop wasn't more help.

00silverTJ I sent this to Crown. It is a stadb in the dark, but what the hay...


Jeep TJ Body mount pans rust away and leave Jeepers with little recourse but to piece together patches for their body mounts. The Jeep OEM part number is for a set of pans for the entire area.
Is this something that Crown could, with enough interest, produce and sell? If this is not something you do, could you direct us to someone else who might make these?

00silverTJ Yeah, Someone needs to atart stamping that piece. THe OEM part number is for all of the pans in that area.

I would like to know how to bring this to a manufacturers attention (like the ODPA / Crown solution.)

Body mount rust repair... anyone find a "new" channel?

I have a '99 that has developed rust in the "U" channel that is spot welded to the floor boards where the body mounts are. The floor itself is good, only the channel has an issue.

I've searched around the 'net, but I can only find complete floorpans (at $850+), that don't show enough detail to ensure I'm getting this item not to mention I don't really need an entire pan.

Local salvage yards don't have anything "better" that is worth messing with.

I've found a local body shop that could potentially cut out the bad area and piece something in, but they have suggested I try to find a new replacement.

I've yet to try the local Jeep dealer in person, but I've been on the OEM parts website for Chrysler and Jeep and I don't see what I want as available seperately. Has anyone found a replacement?

I know I'm not alone with this issue, I've noted it on several other jeeps of my vintage that I looked at. I've got the rust in the frame, on the frame, the brake lines, fuel vapor return, etc... Heck, I can't even drop the skid plate. Nuts spin, (torch will fix that, hole saw will cut out, and welded in flange nuts for the repair). Rust creeped up on me more so in the past couple years when my daughter had it, now I'm driving again and have a close eye on things.

My jeep has been like my best friend for the past 11 years, been faithful, minimal problems. It just rolled over 100K and I'm going through everything (that hasn't been normal routine maintenance stuff) and getting things back lto as close to new as I can so that we can go another 100K.
