|444||The original carter carbs are emissions era smogger feedback carbs. They are problematic at the best of times. Your money would be better spent upgrading to a mc 2100, weber 32/36 or 38/38.|

|dylan707||yes I still have the original carb, and I have been thinking it probably needs to be gone through for a while. How can I fix this problem? Or is it a "new carb time" situation..|

|444||You can check the timing, but chances are it's carb. When you keep the rpm low during launch, your carb has to transition from the idle circuit to the primary circuit all while under load. When you rev it up high and launch, you bypass this part of the process. You still have the stock carter carb?|

87 YJ stuttering and lurching in first gear, please help.
Hi everyone, my first time posting to wrangler forums. I have an 87 yj 6cyl 4.2. I just replaced the transmission (peugot ba10/5 ...) and i put in new slave, clutch, pressure plate, etc..however recently my jeep has a tendency to stutter when i go from a dead stop in first gear..(i would relate the noise and feeling to putting the car in 4th gear going 20ph. Heres the tricky part, which may be a clue to the problem..when i release the clutch slowly and give it high rpms it seems to not happen at least as much or as violently..also when i let the clutch out extremely slowly and just baby the gas. But it still does it to some extent. I have asked multiple people, and each has given me a different answer. I think it could be that the timing isnt right? which would be great because its not a hard fix..
