bkelly911 Thanks for all the help. I spent a couple of hours yesterday going through the whole electrical system. Cleaning grounds and checking connections. So far since i've done that it hasn't done the hesitation (although I haven't had it on the interstate which is usually where it starts). Hopefully it was nothing. My girlfriends dad is a mechanic at a GM dealer so if it comes back I'll see if he can grab his scanner and take a ride with me. I wish it would just break so I would at least know where the problem is!!

AOR ^^^ yup. Typically the mechanic that has one will know how to use it, since they are pricey. Not always the case but most times. They will hook it up and go for a drive with you. This allows them to watch/record the issues as they arise on your recreation of the issue. The tests generally aren't cheap but are worth the $$ to resolve frustrating problems. You may also figure out other stuff that will potentially cause issues in the future.

Call around and ask lots of ???s before selecting a shop to do the work. Real world experience with this type of tool is where you should spend your money. Not just "yeah, I gots me one of those!"

Shelby427 A much more advanced unit then they use in the auto part stores. It will monitor multiple functions of the computer. Can display graphs and such of sensors outputs and pick up what is called a "snap shot" of a failure. Will show all read systems and show which one went on you. And yes dealers and many big time shops have em.

bkelly911 The more I drive it the more I'm leaning toward an electrical issue. The hesitation is just too instantaneous to be fuel. There were an awful lot of coincidences but they were all too intermittent to be definitive. I looked through the wiring under the hood yesterday and couldn't really find anything. What's this realtime guage? Do all dealer mechanics have them?

I was leaning toward electrical also. A little different, but when my battery post was all corroded jeep was acting funny, gauges were jumping all over the place and was stuttering before it just died. I walked to the store and grabbed a can of coke and a tooth brush. Got me to autozone and then home. I replaces the terminal it was so bad, could not even get it to tighten.

AOR Fuel filter going bad or clogged? Just a thought. Water yes but not on just bump and after so many refills. Bad ground, maybe. Seems weird that it would happen after just putting in fuel. Check the entire electrical system under hood. Have a mechanic put a real-time scanner on it, then drive it.

Shelby427 Maybe just maybe, the lower portion of the sender has broken loose, where the pump is.
It swings around and at times flips out of the fuel level, and you loose fuel pressure for a bit. Also would account for a wonky fuel gauge.

Would make sense where it gets bumped or you swing into a turn, same thing for a hard acceleration, it's letting/causing the pump to swing around on it's hose. And the lower the fuel level the more often it would act up, as it's easier for the pump/pickup to swing out of the fuel in the tank and suck air for a bit.

bkelly911 I thought that at first but I've had gas from 10 different stations in it since then. It's been on E and back up to 3/4 So I don't think that's the problem. But then again if I knew I wouldn't need help.

Is it the fuel pump?

So here's the story...

Two weeks ago I got things going at the gas pump then asked my girlfriend to put 20 bucks in. I come out, she's in the jeep, and we take off. Approx. 15 miles later when getting on the interstate, I hit a bump and felt a hesitation. No big deal. 15 miles after that.. same thing. About 10 miles later it starts getting pretty bad, mainly when I hit bumps. All of a sudden the gas guage drops from over a 1/4 to below E. I freak out and get off the exit, hesitating the whole way, to get fuel. Walk back and there's no gas cap. Apparently she was so worried about putting 21.00 in instead of 20.00 that she forgot to put the gas cap back on. Drove it like that 10 more miles home and put my non-locking gas cap back on. It's been hesitating ever since.

.Hesitation over bumps (intermittent)
.Hesitation when accelerating fast (intermittent)
.When hesitating gas needle starts to fluctuate. Sometimes ^ sometimes down.
.Usually won't start hesitating until I've been driving for a while. >20-30miles. but once it starts... doesn't quit.
.Hesitation around turns (intermittent)
.Hesitation worse around a 1/4 tank or lower.

Sorry if this is a little long winded. Any takers?
