|naterg||The only one around here is a pretty hardcore club... and they seem pretty stuck up to me. I have sat in on a meeting once, and did not like the attitudes. No one said more than two words to me. So no club for me. I have thought about starting my own club, it it just seems way in depth and complicated. So, I will just stick with finding buddies to wheel with.|

Just join to get in member discounts with sponsors and participate in runs. Most clubs will only expect you to make a couple meetings to be considered a member. That way you have minimal contact with the "ploitics" and you can take advantage of the benefits.

|"W4MAC"||I have never joined any kind of off road club, but I'm thinking about trying one now. I'm just not good at showing up to meetings. I've got a busy life, and it's hard enuf to find time to play, with no spare time to meet and talk politics.|

I'm the treasurer (show me the money)
Frank is vice president
....it was a hostile Applegate take over!!!!! (not really)
Our club is great and I'm the Wal Mart greeter - you show up and I'm usually the first one you meet, cause I walk up & ask you about your Jeep. Our club has 114 members and 95% are active in our activities.....great bunch of folks majority of 'em are our close friends. We have many stockers all the way to monster rigs that compete - we all get along.

We're way to laid back for all that. All we want to do is go wheeling and meet up every other month to have a frothy beverage or three....aaaand of course spend time with family and what not.
We're currently working on getting it set up so that ours is prorated. Everyone who signed up this year basically gets next year free because we didn't have the foresight to work this system out. Hell, we are less than a year old and growing faster than we can keep up sometimes.

|kg4kpg||Well, turns out I was chastised for asking if they pro-rated dues for new members joining later in the year so I decided they weren't my kind of club. I'm happy to support advocacy groups, but I have plenty of friends to wheel with without having guidance from a club. I'll send my money to the United 4 Wheel Drive Association. At least there you get a nice cap!|

|drummerwookie||i belong to a local club here called the muddy buddys. well, belonged is more like it since i dont have the jeep anymore. but they told me they dont want to lose me, so they are keeping me on as a member as long as it takes. however, they only allow wrangler type jeeps (cjs, yjs, TJs, JKs) in the club. no cherokees which sucks bc they are an awesome group of people. but, even if im not in the club and dont have a wrangler type jeep, i can still tag along on trail rides and to their cruise ins and their jeep jams|

|Joel||No clubs for me. I am not interested in politics and big fish in small ponds. I have met many wheelers and the ones I like the most are the ones I continue to wheel with. Life is too short to play games and I enjoy the hobby too much to let others ruin it for me.|

|tazmann910||I belong to a club here in the Atlanta area called the Georgia Bounty Runners. It is a great way to go on legal trail rides with a bunch of folks that know how to wheel.|

I am the President of the AZ RockRats we are a small club that all met on the AZVJC and most times found ourselves on the same trails. We decided to go out on our own. We have no meetings other then on the trail and do our business on the web.
I do not care if you join a club or not, BUT we all need to support the organizations that work to keep our trails open. Not just "tread lightly" or "Blue Ribbon" but your local and state organizations. I am also VP on the Arizona Off Highway Vehicle Coalition. Get invovled to save your trails now before we lose them.

Also from the trip reports it seems like these guys get their kicks out of tearing up their rigs just so they can fix them. About the only thing that gets reported is how "lame" the trails were and who rolled their rig. Personally it doesn't sound like my kind of thing. It's just too much testosterone for me.
Dude, you've soooo gotta tell your mom.
|08-27-2007 11:26 PM|
they wont let me, you have to be 18 to join, it is WICKED annoying, how do they expect to get kids to learn how to leagally use trails if they dont let them in the clubs, there is NO WHERE legal to wheel in mass. unless your in a club, and they bar ppl under 18, and then the piss and moan about how all the kids are wheeling illeagally and how we're ruining the 4x4 reputation
it gets me ANGRY!

Jeep clubs, are you a member of one?
I've never been a paying member of any jeep club. I am on all the forums though, including a lot of club forums. There are two here in the Charleston area, one just jeeps, the other for all 4x4's. The jeep club is nice and has several nice people, like the guy I got the bumper from. Their club guidelines state a 24.00 per year membership renewable in january and it does not pro-rate as the year goes by. Of course it doesn't explain it either. I don't agree with it either even thought I would have paid it. My issue with them, like a couple other clubs I've seen, is that they seem to be very political. They argue on the forum daily over their policies. They even got in a heated debate over where to have the next club meeting. They take it too seriously and I think the net result is that they only have about 10 paid members who attend meetings (from what I have read). The do plan trips and events like a very nice 4x4 show though.
I've beena member of Jeeps Unlimited since 1999. We planned and had trips to Tellico in 2001 and 2002. A lot of us never met before Right Coast Run '01 but wheeled together several times after. No meetings, club dues or anything. I personally prefer socializing on the forums and meeting up for trips or events. who cares about meetings to discuss rules and stuff. I don't need a club to be a supporter of groups like UFWDA or Tread Lightly.
And that's all I got to say about that!
