I have a Viper system with proximity sensor for the cab area. It's a 2-way system that sends a signal to my remote letting me know what's going on with my Jeep. When I first got it, it was super sensitive (not the outer perimeter, it was the inner sensor) Been tweaking the inner sensitivity and it's just about right now. Working fine now with the top down 24/7. Alarm has gone off once while I was in the grocery store. I knew immediately even though I couldn't hear it going off. The remote went crazy & I took off for my Jeep. Got there and it was a Hummer driver setting off the shock sensor with his big butt everytime he bent over to get his groceries out of the cart. We had a little talk about disturbing other people's property. And before you ask if I was crazy, I was armed and ready to defend myself and my property. So, is an alarm overkill--maybe, maybe not--just one more line of defense. My alarm system isn't for everyone. Does it have it's issues--yes. Is it annoying--at times, yes. If you don't think you need it, that's ok in my book. If you do get a system like the one I have, be prepared to spend some time tweaking it to get it the way you want. Anyone that wants to know more, feel free to PM me.
One more thing, I'm also an advocate for not leaving anything of value in site or in the Jeep for that matter. I do take the stuff I'd like to hang on to with me every time I leave the Jeep.

I would have to agree that an alarm in a soft-top Jeep is an after-the-fact device.
The best advise is already here - don't leave anything in it you want to keep.
Glock is a great deterrent, as is 12 ga.
I always thought that wiring the door handles to the battery would make a great car theft deterrent, but without metal handles it's useless. I also found out that it isn't legal since if someone attempted to steal the vehicle the amperage would likely kill them on the spot - not that there's anything wrong with that - I'm just sayin

I leave the doors unlocked so they don't have to cut the windows. Like Daggo said, I try to never leave anything that looks appealing in sight. Everything stays locked in the center console and glove compartment.
I have never thought of a security alarm because I know when I hear one, I just get annoyed and wish they would shut the stupid thing off. I'm guessing many other people feel the same.

|El Gringo||I have thought about an alarm on mine so I can rectify any 'sticky hands' with alternating 12ga 00Buck and Slugs but that's apparently just how they roll in East Texas.|

|daggo66||Beeping and chirping will just let you know that your stuff is gone. The best thing is to not leave anything in it.|

Had a break in, now looking for security system
Last week some low life cut a hole in the rear window of my soft top on my JK. Took about 250 bucks worth of tools and I'll have to replace my window. Anyways, can someone lead more towards a good proximity alarm system? What alarm system do you have and what one is working the best for JK's? I want one of those systems were you put your hand inside and it starts beeping and churping loud. Any help would be appreciated!
