|PAKJK||I'm only getting 11 MPG...|
|06-27-2011 01:36 AM|
The JKU was here in Korea, it's been here for a year I think. The Doc that owned it didn't get to go off road with it so I think he was looking for something more practical.
I'm happy with my purchase, I thought the 4x4 system was broke and going to cost me an arm and leg to fix. After posting online, i've re-attached the bushing under the shifter and it works great now.
I'll see how this works out for me in the next couple of months and decide if I'm going to keep it or try and sell it before I leave to Vegas. If I take it to Vegas and don't like it hopefully I can trade it in or sell it for without a loss. Bottomline I've always wanted a Wrangler and now I have one. Time to figure out if I love it or hate it.

|El Gringo||Get the X, and take the doors off and put a bikini top on it. No power locks/windows, no problem. Well, I see you did that. Was the JKU there in Korea that went to Moab?|

If you have a family, get the 4 Door! You can still remove the top & go 4 wheeling. Not sure about the damage, I would get a quote on it being fixed. If it drives ok, there prob isn't any unseen damage (although I drove about 200 miles before I realized I broke the U-joints casing which lead to more damage since I was driving on it, cost $1150).
Everyone who gets in my 4 Door (everyday drivers) want one. It's very practical, except on gas, but not bad considering it's an SUV. My 07 X averaged about 18-19 & my 08 Rubi w/ 4" lift averages 17-18. County/HWY (and I like to go 80, but I don't stop on the gas out of every stop).

Not to sure but I wouldn't be surprised if they had a diesel version over here. Most cars are way over priced in Korea unless you buy it from our military car sales program. If your buying an imported car in Korea your going to be paying much more then you would if you bought that same car in the states. I don't believe it's as bad as it was a few years ago but I'm sure it's still bad.
Lots of cars out here are diesel or run off of LPG gas.
|06-23-2011 10:34 AM|
|desertgoose||Do they happen to have different engine options on the Jeeps in Korea? I thought I heard they have a diesel engine available some places overseas.|
|06-23-2011 09:40 AM|
I'm stationed in Korea and will be moving to NV in Nov. Uncle SAM will definitely be paying for me to take this JEEP back to the states. Most people in my shoes would of just got a beater for the next few months and got a vehicle when they got back to the states.
My choices were definitely slim and not much to choose from. There was about 4 jeeps in total that I had to choose from but only liked 2. I think I felt the most comfortable with this decision because of the price I was getting it for and the condition of the jeep.
I looked at like this, if I take this back to the states with me and I really like it or if I really don't like it i'll be able to trade it in or sell it without any financial loss.
Plus I've always wanted a JEEP and at this price for the JEEP I got and with the wife's approval I had to do it.
|06-22-2011 09:24 PM|
Silly question, you are stationed overseas? You are buying it there, rather than back home on leave? Not that it is a bad thing, but your choices overseas on used Jeeps will be minimal, and make sure Uncle Sam is paying to get it back home.
If you are buyingxxxxx bought it in the US, sorry for the confusion.
Its not a bad price, and the bigger part is now that you have it are you happy? Sounds like that is true. When I shop I always put 20 options in front of myself not just 2. Wife hates that about me.
Enjoy your Jeep!

GOT IT! $18,080.00
Love the Jeep can't wait to wear out these tires and then lift it with some new shoes! This jeep has me looking for some little dirt rice paddy roads out here. Not sure how these little stock tires will hold up in the mud.
|06-15-2011 04:49 PM|
Yeah I twisted my way into the back seat and was like holly crap! How the hell does an adult fit back here! Only my 2 and 4 year old daughter will be going back there. If my co-workers want to jump in the backseat, well they can suffer it's not like they pay for gas or anything. LOL
Yeah, I leaned over and rolled the window and unlocked the door just fine, its not a big deal at all.
I can't wait to get it! LOL.
I gotta do some searching on this site to see how big tires this stock X can handle without modding to much of it. Just want to lift it about 3" and put some new wheels and tires on.

Alright, I took a test drive of the 2008 and was super impressed by the feel of the jeep. I guess when I hear people talk about jeeps I get the impression that I'm about to drive something in comparison to a military HMMWV. It's completely the opposite. The handling and just the overall feel of the vehicle is smooth and quiet. Nothing compared to the loud and raw feeling of a HMMWV. Although I'd take one in a heartbeat LOL
18,200, full tank of gas and detailed. Only thing is I have to wait about 5 or 6 days since he's not ready to give it up right away and will need a vehicle for a few more days. I guess I'm going to have to wait.....
|06-13-2011 10:29 AM|
I don't need the extra space for the wife and kids, at most I'll run around town with the kids but if the wife comes along we'll get in her SUV.
I just spoke to the X owner and were going to work out a price between 17,500 and 18,500. So I'm getting a pretty darn good deal I think and I guess that's all that matters. All depends on the test drive on Wednesday it better not turn out to be a lemon.
Thanks again for all the comments and recommendations. I'll post some pics of my new stock JK since this site is full of modded ones...if i get it.
I'm so addicted to this site, I hope my jeep will be my therapy

You should go talk to a dealer, or send a message to pat
|06-12-2011 11:16 PM|
I've found a most sellers somehow sense the delicate aroma of CA$H in the air and their motivation increases dramatically if they sense the imminent reality of a wad coming their way....rather than the "would you take xxxxamount"....
KBB along with others are a helpful guide to the average purchaser. And I prefer dealing with private sales for a host of reasons.
Knowing what the product is worth to YOU gives another major tool in securing the absolute best deal.
Having pre-arranged financing adds to the delight of making the move when all factors add up to "THIS one".
Good luck in your search. Don't rush it, the best one will materialize in front of you when all the factors are in place.
|06-12-2011 11:06 PM|
|PAKJK||Anyone know if the KBB Trade in amount is what the dealers usually payout? I'm trying to make sure that when I buy a used car I can get the owner to come down to that price or right above it.|
|06-12-2011 10:14 PM|
I would wait too. I just bought a 2008 X this week. Mine was $19.5 with 16K miles. It may only be an X but mine has power windows and locks, cruise control, and an upgraded softtop. Mine is a 2 door, I have a 13 yr old son, so I figured that he can climb in and out. If you have kids in car seats, go 4 door. You can find others out there that have what you want. I agree not to settle on something, otherwise you'll regret it later.
My dealer allowed me to test drive it for 2 days to decide if I liked it, and I fell in love. I would do the same, find one, see if you can test drive it for a day or so and make sure you like it.
Good luck in your search.

|KSCRUDE||The rubi sounds like a road hard, put away wet price of junk to me. I just seen a new 4 door sport , 11 model 0 mile siting on the lot for 28.5k sticker. Hard top and everything. The 11 models seem to have a nicer interior and other upgrades. Owning a 11 2 door, and rarely taking only one passenger, as my rear seat is gone, I can tell you that with a wife and 2 kids you must get a 4 door or it will be very cramped. Don't get in a hurry, as they will be coming down big time when the 12 models hit the lots. You could probably pick up a 11 4 door for about 24 to 25k and get 0% for 60 months and 0 down. Ford is pushing them numbers on everything now. It's a buyers market, make them bow to your terms, not theirs! A sport model will do anything you and the wife and kids are up to I am quite sure. Don't buy someone elses problems. Them used jeeps you are looking at are way overpriced, considering there condiction and such. Welcome home and thanks for your service.|

|kattzoo||I have an 09 X, no power windows/locks, vinyl seats, and I love it. I can lean over and roll down the window if needed. Then again, I've had the top off and the windows down for weeks now, so it doesn't matter much. I think the kids are what will make the X your are looking at not as attractive. Hope you find the perfect one for you!|

Whatever the additions to a stock base model, such upgrades as "power windows" do not take away from off-road capability.
And those who modify their base models into whatever their own version of "Jeepiness" may be, seem to forget they started with the same base as any fruited out soccer mom model. Adding polka dotted curtains to a Rubi does not make it a soccer mom basket case, nor does it do such to a base model.
Whatever cosmetic and creature comforts added do not make up for lack of 4 door room if you need it.
The usefulness of occasional off-road features do not outweigh the needs 98% of the time.
We don't need power windows, nor the other Rubi options. The point is, we gain incredible pleasure from having such available.
I had talked myself into the obvious advantages of a JKU, without being able to find just the *right* one during the year of my own search. Had almost sprung for a new one in fact.....then....
......a great deal on an 08 Sahara with 24G option package came along. I disliked the same-color fenders, and was unsure the extra short JK would work for me.
6 months later, I'm very pleased.
And I use my power windows daily numerous times. Haven't needed any of the Rubi stuff, and have been quite satisfied with the level of off-road qualities present in this very model.
So many Jeeps.....so little time.....

I'm going for a test drive in the RUBI tomorrow and possible take it to my mech. When it's on the lift what are some things I should look for underneath? How can I tell if it was abused other than taking this guys word? He should be legit, he's a doc in the USAF. I can live with the visual damage, I'll get them fixed over the time I own it or at least before I sell it.
This seems like a very good deal on a RUBI, I'll never have to mod it since it will be more then capable of doing the things I will do with it. I better take it off road, I keep telling myself that I will because all these pics of people going out and wheeling looks fun.

I'm stationed in South Korea right now but will be moving to Las Vegas this Nov. I will wait to get to Vegas to buy a truck/jeep/suv/car unless I can find on that I like/love out here and the price is good. Such as the X which is 3k below kbb. I priced out the jeep in comparison to the jeeps out in Vegas.
I'm still not 100% sure I want a jeep, I've also been looking towards a Toyota Tacoma 4x4 crewcab, shortbed.
I think I'll get the jeep but will have to wait for the test drive to see if I really love it. I would love to go off road when I get to Vegas, but having a truck would be awesome as well since I'll be able to move stuff around when I get a house out there.

|XJ Knight||Yeah power windows are not really considered a plus.. Im no fan of the 4dr JK but it sounds like it fits your situation right.. So find one that hasn't been beaten on or beaten on to hard.. Especially if your looking in the low 20k range.. If I may ask where do you live?|
|06-11-2011 05:27 PM|
Thanks for all the great responses. I have to wait 3 more days before I can see it in person and test drive the X. I'm excited and can't wait.
Power door locks, windows and cruise control can all be added aftermarket I guess so it's not a big deal that the x doesn't have it. Hopefully they aren't crazy expensive but if so I don't have to add them.
The X was advertised for $20,900 obo. This guy is selling it for his wife and told me that he couldn't go lower then $18.5 so I'm offering him $17 in hopes to getting the price a little bit lower but honestly $18.5 isn't bad either.

|Doubledown||Keep looking. Don't settle for something that you are not 100% in love with. You will regret it later. Good luck.|

Here's the thing--you're right that JKs, much more so than TJs, have the capacity to be ordered/modified with more "soccer mom" features than any prior Wrangler. Imagine a JK with four doors, hard top, street tires, leather, nav, power everything, and maybe (prior to 2011) even 2wd. That's a soccer mom vehicle if I ever saw one.
BUT, what's interesting is that JKs can also be ordered/modded with just as much "jeepness" as a TJ. Some things--like four doors--undoubtedly are a change, but they can be balanced against lockers, lifts, nice MTs, and all sorts of other "true jeep" type of features. You've undoubtedly seen some very "jeep" JKs.
Some of the "soccer mom" features even further the overall "jeepness" in the right context. For example, those power winddows are a lot of help in a 4 door. How the hell else am I supposed to roll down my rear windows when I'm driving?
I guess the point is that JKs aren't inherently "soccer mom." They can be brought that direction or toward total "jeepness". That's an impressive level of flexibility.
|06-11-2011 03:48 PM|
Well you can always buy my 08 Jku with only 30k on it. No power options, but both inside and outside are immaculate. Tires and rims have 250 miles
Then I'll end up being stuck with a '12.
