Low/reverse is the same clutch pack. And the trans drops to low gear when coming to a stop.

Could be something like a problem in the clutch pack, bad planetary gear, or so on. In other words, get it back to the dealer, PRONTO!
Yeah it somewhat does it in reverse. But its barely noticeable. But my uncle is a mechanic and he said its normal for auto transmissions to do it also

Plowboy1970 Whine in first gear is normal. I test drove 4 autos before buying one and they all did it. The whine was my first post. It is the planetary gears you hear. Before coming to a complete stop, the trans kicks down to first gear.

Transmission Whining?

I have a '99 Tj Sport, Auto transmission. 2 months after my parents bought me the car, the transmission went bad. Since it was still under warranty, the dealership paid to get the tranny rebuilt. When I first got it, and after the rebuild I noticed the transmission had a whining sound to it when accelerating in 1st gear, and stops after it shifts. It doesnt make that noise in any other gears, but does it about 2 seconds before coming to a complete stop. Anyone else with this? I dont know if this is normal or not? Any feedback is appreciated. Thanks.
