5th gear isn't for acceleration it's for fuel economy. Try downshifting into 4th on that hill the next time and see if it helps. We have a bridge I have to go over when I go to the beach and there is no way to get up it in 5th gear even when I hit it a 65mph.
Hope this helps. Also a lot of WF swear on doing a Seafoam treatment to the engine. It clears all the carbon out of the engine and my jeep does run smoother since I tried it. I used half a bottle in the throttle body and half in the tank. Seafoam recommends 1/3 in throttle 1/3 in tank and 1/3 in oil, but I don't add anything to the oil unless I a really close to doing a change.

|XJ Knight||really.. I haven't done any steep inclines in TJ yet.. But in the old xj the only time it was a real issue when it was a supper steep grade that would give alot of cars trucks and suvs issues.. Did a few trips to FL through the appilachians no issues let alone any hills where i live.. Same engine in slightly heavier jeep..|

|THUDore||it's pretty steep, but I Nissan Xterra is doing fine with it. Most cars just passed me on that stretch. I floored it but it didn't move any faster.|

|hgesell||Welcome to WF. How steep was the hill? I need to shift into 4th to get some speed up when climbing hills even at 55.|

Just got a 2004 TJ - first time Wrangler Owner
just got a 2004 TJ wiht 59K on it. 5 spd. 4.0L 6. Good condition.
question: when I go up hill, my Jeep just lacks of power, I could not even follow the traffic at 55 mph on a local highway.
is it common? or I did something wrong?
