Find the thread "paging hilldweller"; it's a long, sordid story...

I have a light addiction that I'm battling.

Do you understand the diagram I posted?
That will work for you. You will use the battery ---- but through the relay.
If you don't understand the diagram, find a local mentor to help out. Most gear-heads and wheelers are more than happy to share some wisdom like this.

daggo66 Take off the side panel of you dash (either side) You will see a nickel sized foam filled hole. You can run the wire through there with a coat hanger. then you can easily drill through the dash to mount the switch.

MTH Wow, good little thread here. Lots of knowledge crammed in efficiently--thanks Bill.

I'm eventually going to mount A-pillar lights and actually believe I know less about wiring and electricity than my 3-year-old daughter. Got to remember this one . . . .

Of course it would.

Here's a simple diagram:

And here's what I did; ymmv:

I used a full harness from Rallylights.com connected to the passenger side OE headlight circuit and upgraded my headlights. First to Hella H4, then Cibie H4, then to JW Speaker #8700 LEDs. Simple, complete, legal.

My OE fogs were just a bulb swap and retained OE function.
Only legal to run with lowbeams in low visibility situations.

The Truck-Lite LED floodlights (small ones on bumper) were wired per the diagram above to a switch by the driver's side speaker. Simple on/off lighted switch using a running light t-tap to trip the relay.
Offroad use only.

The Truck-Lite LED spotlights (the big suckers) were wired with a harness that I asked Rallylights to build to use the driver's side OE H13 plug's highbeam circuit to trip the relay; the rest of the wiring is per the diagram.
These would only come on with the highbeams when the switch was thrown.
Almost legal to run with highbeams, not legal with lowbeams, and great for offroad.

I never got around to A-pillar lights or anything on the roof. Before I'd think of that I'd install something to help while backing up.

mrMangoTango can i use the battery to power the switch? in that case it would turn on even when the car is off which is fine, but would it drain my battery?

1) Do i need a relay? That would be a good idea.
2) Where do i put the switch inside of the cabin? Anywhere you want; I put mine below the speaker by my left knee.
3) Where can i run the wires from engine compartment into the cabin? Pop the cover off either side of the dash by the door; look inside there for a bit of fluff that hides a hole coming from the engine area. Poke a coat-hanger through and run your wires.

Thanks in advance for the help.
Pictures would be very helpful as well
I'd recommend a set of lights on the bumpers prior to A-pillar lights; they're just more effective overall.
A Cibie headlight upgrade from Daniel Stern is even better money spent...

Welcome to the forum.
There are some great old threads that will give you some ideas too. Don't spend money 'til you check the archive of wisdom found in these pages.
