|brwneyedgrl5_7||thanks for all the advice yall i got a battery, charged it overnite so i would be able to get to work in the am. then i went to auto zone and had them charge my battery so they could conduct their tests but it wouldnt take a charge so i had no choice but to replace the battery. it started right up and i had them test that battery, the alternater and the starter and everything was fine. whew!|

|Shelby427||Ditto what rrich said. Putting the cables together drains the capacitors if you will, for items like the airbags, which remain powered for a short time after battery is unhooked.|

No, it will always die without the battery connected. A dangerous practice, on on older cars it often would fry the alternator - then when you test it it's dead. But you did it! That test was left over from the 60's with mechanical generators. With the more modern systems, the PCM is the regulator for the alternator. Without the battery, the PCM goes dead, alternator stops charging, engine stops. == wrong conclusions are drawn.

no again - another rumor - as effective as killing a sheep at midnight or sitting under a pyramid, or wishing you could find an honest politician.
It doesn't do anything. Just leave it disconnected for 2 minutes. It will clear codes and the volatile (short term) memory. Sometimes the deep internal memory needs to be reset - that takes at least an 8 hour disconnect. If 2 minutes doesn't help, try 8 hours.

|Geno||Unhook the battery whilie your jeep is running. If it dies, then its your alternator. If not, then you have a weak or bad battery. Take the battery to Autozone and they'll test it for free.|

What do you mean by turning over? Is it slow cranking/spinning over? Or it it cranking/spinning over but not starting?
Former could be weak battery, bad connections.
Latter could be a fuel pump going bad, faulty fuel regulator letting the pressure bleed off.
Also like said a possible vacuum leak, even a dirty IAC or passage can cause an erratic idle.

Reset your PCM and try again. Hold the positive battery cable on the negative terminal of your battery for 15 seconds. Hook it back up and see if the problem still exists.
I don't think you have a TPS problem. I'd lean more towards a vacuum problem.

|specbill||IF it was running fine before the tune up go back to that person and step by step have him reverse what he did until he finds what he messed up. Good luck|

98 TJ Tps
I just changed my TPS in 98 TJ, but all the problems are still happening. I thought my tps went bad b/c the jeep was having a hard time turning over and the rpm's would go down quickly and back up while accelerating. I just had a tune up, so I have no idea what else it could be. Any suggestions?
