One other nice thing I noticed after driving my jeep to and from work today is that it starts moving from a stop much better. I had this annoying shudder while taking off in first that would always occur if I didn't do it just right.....it doesn't do that anymore!

Those two wires that loop around the holders can be confusing getting them the right way.

Spark Plug Wire Routing for '97 4.0 TJ
Rather than asking a question, this thread will serve to hopefully provide some useful information.
I wasn't sure how old the spark plugs and wires were on my TJ, so I figured that I would replace them in an attempt to remedy a slight stumble/loss of power my 4.0 had at certain RPMs. Another issue I had is that the previous installer of my spark plug wires obviously had installed them wrong and it was a mess.....I suppose the correct terminals on the distributor cap were connected to the correct plugs but I hated the routing of my plug wires. It didn't look right and I'm picky about stuff like that; I wanted it back to the stock look! After scouring the internet for good photos of what they should look like, I came up kind of empty handed but I was able to piece it together in what I believe to be the proper wire placement in the correct looms and with correct routing. I couldn't even compare lengths of wires to my old ones, since the wrong lengths of plug wires were on the wrong plugs. Just remember that the two wires with 90 degree boots go on the #6 and #1 cylinders, the shortest wires of the bunch (not including the coil wire) go to cylinders #2 and #5, and then the left over wires go to cylinders #3 and #4.
Additionally, I was dreading the spark plug change in the #1 cylinder since it looked pretty difficult due to its location behind the A/C compressor. Come to find out, it wasn't much more difficult than the other 5 cylinders. I used a 6" extension with a universal connected to the spark plug socket...it took a few tries to get the plug positioned right in the hole so that it could be hand tightened but once I achieved that it was a piece of cake. When I pulled the #1 plug, I realized that it was a different brand and looked quite old. Talk about lazy! Anyway, I'm glad I tackled this project yesterday after work, because my Jeep seems to be running noticeably better today!
