|missingbite||My profile pic is of 33X10.5 on a TJ. I love the look and it drives great. I can air down for rock crawling and I go anywhere the other guys in my club go. I haven't seen a reason for 12.5 except for where Jerry said. I am at 7000 feet MSL with rocks and snow.|

Those are 33x10.5s on my YJ before I sold it.
I think it's a great tire for the terrain in my area. Unfortunately there is a ton of mud in NE Ohio, so sometimes ya gotta trail ride through the woods and in the mud before the rocks. I like the way a narrow tire handles, and it's also less stress on your unit bearings. They weigh less, and they are cheaper.
It's all subjective though. I read a really detailed article about the differences between going narrow or wide. Jerry actually might have posted it, but I can't remember.

missingbite-have you got some photos of your 33x10.5s? Does it look a little odd to have tall and narrow tires. Someone called them cookie cutter.
Anybody know what I'd be sacrificing with 33x10.5s instsd of 33x12.5?

|missingbite||I use BFG KM2's at 33X10.5 on stock rims and they work great. I do have very little rubbing in reverse at FULL wheel turn. I could fix it with a couple of washers but for the light rock crawling I do it's not a problem. I still can't figure out the advantage of a 12.5 wide tire over 10.5. I know there is an advantage in some situations but mine are great at 10.5|

|Jerry Bransford||Don't do it. #1, those wheels have too much backspacing so the inside sidewall of those 12.5" tires will rub on the suspension like crazy. #2, a 7" wide wheel is too narrow for that width tire. Go for a 15x8 wheel that has between 3.75" and 4.5" of backspacing which will work fine.|

|dmcg||Don't use wheel spacers to squeeze 12.50 on 7" rim, its just wrong. I have the BFG AT 33x10.50r15 and I love them!|

A good set of spacers is almost the same price as a new set of wheels....so might as well get new wheels anyway since 15x7 is a bit narrow for 12.5 wide wheels. 15x8 is usually considered minimum. next 33x10.50R15 wheels are hard to find...BFG is about the only brand that sells them. They'd fit, but you'd still need wheel spacers or to adjust the steering stops.

look at the rear axle, and the distance from the tire to the rear spring perch.
^thats a 31x10.50R15 BTW.
if you don't change the backspacing you'll destroy/cut up the inner sidewalls of the tires.

|4Jeepn||It will fit on the rim, but the tire itself will rub. Save up for some 15x8 rims with 3.75-4" of backspacing which will push it out from the Jeep and you should be fine.|

Adding 33X12.5X15 Tires to my Stock Grizzly 15X7 Wheels
Is there any reason this tire and wheel combination will be a problem? I will be using it on a 97 TJ with 3" BDS suspension lift and wheel spacers. The primary reason is that I like the stock wheel look and also want to save some money by using the stock wheels. Are the 33X12.50s to wide for the 7" rims?
