Well said! This past weekend was actually glorious beach weather and I took my honey to the local beach. Needless to say i was getting compliments left and right because it's the perfect beach going machine. And they usually ended with "Man, I gotta get me one of those!" - I immediately thought of this forum and had a nice hearty chuckle! No one gets these keys unless it's the guy pulling it into the car wash!

fan of fanboys I can't hate on people who ask to much bc I did once. Couple years before I got mine I was interested but never drove one. Buddy (not neighbor) was going out of town for weekend and not taking jeep. He let me use for weekend. Took top and doors off for me. I loved. And once my situation allowed I went and bought one. And wife loves mine so much she is buying a 2012 jku.

So don't hate on those who borrow. Ha.

Scooter_Trash Not only did my sister in-law ask to borrow the Jeep, she wanted to use it to tow my camper too.

Yella I use to have a neighbor that I would have let borrow my Jeep. He got married, had some kids and needed more room for his constantly visiting inlaws. He moved to get a bigger house and we lost touch. As for who is left, I don't even like lending my tools to and they know it. They quit asking.

Borrow my jeep? Htfn

I wont even let my 19 yr old son drive my baby. I have spent way to much time and effort to let someone else drive my JEEP. As far as letting a neighbor borrow it I think yall know what "HTFN' stands for. He would be lucky if I didnt pop him in the forehead just for thinking about it, Now I might let him borrow my wife but NOT MY JEEP.

JeepCreeper I let my brother and his family take my Jeep on a trip to Colorado. But I did get to drive their Porsche boxster in exhange.

jiminmanjr Neighbor? Negative. No way, no how.

However, I have friends that I have let drive my Wrangler. I think the main reason is the experience and joy I had when I first drove one. I rented a Wrangler in 2001 while in Las Vegas, and drove it out to Hoover Dam and around the strip. That one day of play (with the top down, and a five-speed) had me hooked.

So, if I know the person, and know they will take care of it (and themselves), then I'm happy to throw them the keys. If they come back with a big smile on their face and a "wow," then I've added to the Jeep Wrangler love.

Side note... my best friend's son wanted to go for a ride in the Jeep "with the roof off." At the time he was just over four-years-old. His mom followed us down the road on a beautiful spring day.

As we hit the highway at about 50 mph (just enough to enjoy it without being scary), I looked back at him and said "Miles, what do you think of the Jeep?"

He looked at me and said "Jim, this is great, but can you please turn the wind down?"

He still loves to ride with "the roof off," and we go back-roading now. He's into the bumps and dips, but not the speed.

Some people just don't get it. I usually ask them what they did before they had a car and it's always the same - Oh I took the bus or walked. Well, that is what you have to do now boyo! Stop bothering other drivers - especially if they have jeeps - we have them for a reason!

mike636 I would let 1 of my neighbors drive my jeep. I dont live very close to my family and my neighbor is like family to me. As far as anyone else... They know better than to ask lol!

WatchThis! Haha I wont let my dad drive mine(he had an cj7 that he wouldnt let me drive as a teenager so its pay back) so I damned sure wouldnt let some.chump across the streat have it for a day.

desertgoose I would let my neighbor borrow mine only if he/she had something as fun for me to ride in return. His wife won't do, and neither will the Tacoma or FJ. Always gotta put restrictions, like no off roading, or need to park at least 100' from the water. That's only if you trust them. Neighbor across the street is trustworthy but he would never ask, the same as he wouldn't offer his GSXR. I let a friend drive mine 2x and the first was as DD, second was to pick up a tool at checker while I was working on her car. I love my jeep, but if something happened to it I would just get a better one. Definitely NO if they have nothing to offer and just going to put miles on my ride though.

It depends. I would lend out my car to family or close friends if they really needed it. But your neighbor obviously wants to party down with his wife at the beach and that equals a clean up of the car, some awkwardness if they screw up your car in any way, plus if there is an emergency you wouldn't be able to use it. - borrow my toaster or blender for an afternoon sure or come by for a bbq - but no - dont ask me to lend you my car!

Raisinhead Forgot to mention, my neighbor really liked mine when I got it too. He went to the dealer three days later to buy one

InfernoGirl Let our friends wheel mine Sunday... Probably won't ever do that again! They didn't hurt anything as far as I can tell so far, but it's covered in mud, inside and out, and while they said they'd clean it up, circumstances prevented that from happening. It was hard for me to watch, and when my daughter rescued us from the torture I was ever so grateful....

I try to be generous, but apparently I fail when it comes to my 'rita.....

Kgriff Depends, the dead beat neighbor to my left...there is no way I would. the neighbor to my right has become a close personal friend and literally would do anything for me or anyone else for that matter. I would not only let him drive it, I would give it to him for an extended amount of time if he needed. All depends on the relationship with the neighbor. Judging by the way you worded it, your neighbor is just that....a guy you live near. Not really close to...in which case um...no, no you cannot.

Jeep4Shell I would never let ANYONE including family or friends drive my Jeep. Only other person that drives it is my husband.

Raisinhead like many others have said, no way! I've never had good experiences letting others drive my vehicles. Tell him to go rent one.

RazorbackMac The first time I ever let anyone drive my jeep, I rode passenger. He just wanted to take it around the parking lot so I said I guess we could do that. It was fine for about 5 seconds and he started heading toward a curb, sidewalk, and a pasture. When I mentioned that it was private property and not a road, he replied with "it's a jeep, I make my own roads " and kept going. Though I adopted that phrase as for my own driving, asking to circle the lot and ending up off road made the first time, the last time... No one drives my jeep anymore.

FlyinJeeps most of my current neighbours are friends and trustworthy, luckily, and yes I'd let them borrow it. But if one that I hardly knew asked, I'd say no.. I've lived in a few places where the answer would be an immediate no though..
My neighbour has a TJ on 35's, and a full garage and helps me with mods, I definitely wanted him to drive the JKU, and he was happily surprised it still felt like a Jeep. One less JK basher, check!

shell Yes...I'm positive. He wants another Miata so he can race that one. I asked him where he was gonna put it. He said garage and I could park the jeep on the driveway. My answer was I'm not giving up my spot in the garage.

seadog My wife has driven mine quite a few time, but only on road and short errands. Unless she is my DD.

My 23 yo son had to run an errand for me, a few weeks ago. Since he was doing it for me, I offered the Jeep. Like a kid in a candy store. He's a good driver, but doesn't know the quirks. I had to explain to him it was shorter than his tracker, so no sharp turns. When he got back, he was grinning ear-to-ear (like the rest of us).

He's plotting on getting his own.
