KooL Even though we've moved on from the pop/dump of the clutch, I'm going to add my $0.02. Normally when I say "dumping" the clutch, it's intentional as in burning out or racing. Popping the clutch, to me, is an unintentional oops moment when your foot slips or someone can't drive very well.

Sure. Put it in neutral, rev to about 5k and slap it into drive.

97wrangler-242 Well the 2 times I dumped it n my jeep (dana35, 3.07, 31" tires) it broke the bolts that hold the strap over the bearing cap on the ujoint and the ds hit the floor pan

I had one. It was my first car and was a 318 one of Chrysler's best motors. I think I put 240K on mine before I traded mine in. Loved that car. The rear seat folded down and you could go from the trunk into the car. Had my 8 track in it and still can hear Juke Box Hero when I think about it.

Irongrave don't see why not seen a few guys do it with stickies on rocks and I've done it more then once with my weak AX5 to get over a rock, lot more stress then on the street.

GREEN-MACHINE up here in mass popping was for pills ,, dumping was done in a small room with a newspaper, now side stepping,,, hold gas wfo pivot foot off clutch..



and yes i am the master of the rolling burn-out

I had a 1970 Duster with a slant 6 and 3 speed on the floor.

Got me on the surprise ending on that post.

My dad had a duster, can't remember what year but in that era. He sold it to my sister who drove it until the suspension gave in while she was on the road with it. Fortunately going slow. Don't know how many miles it made but we drove the hell out of it. Now where did I put my baby aspirin and celebrex. Don't depend on depends yet.

FalconRods I am an old fart - not a dead one though. It was a 1974 Plymouth Gold Duster. Bought it 1977 26K miles - 2400 bucks and wished I still had it. When I gave it away, and I did to a young couple, had 210K miles. If I can find a picture of it I will post just for you. Oh crap, I am out of geritol and depends. Hope the hovercraft has had time to charge. Lol

RazorbackMac In Texas, we all called it dumping the clutch, I've never heard popping... That sounds like less of clutch maneuver and more of an exhaust malfunction Given, those were ricers. As far as can the rubicon handle it... I've only done it once, I didn't think about turning off traction control. It just bit and sank in the back while the front flexed up and accelerated rapidly. Never tried it again but it didn't damage anything either.

demarpaint I'm sure it can handle it. I had the opportunity to dump/side step/hole shot/pop/etc. more than a few clutches in my day. I've dumped them at speeds much greater than 4,500 rpm. I've done it with traction controll on and off as well to see what happens. LOL

Man, if I had to run out to the jeep to turn off traction control every time I wanted to take a "good dump", I would be in some deep $h*t

jrussblues When I had manuals I would regularly take a dump in them. Never had a problem. Had to turn off traction control to get a good dump though.

ZOMB1E As long as this is turning into a poll, I've always called it popping the clutch.

I've also done it with my JK on wet pavement.

rics1997 Southeast here and never heard it called dumping the clutch. Always popping to do burn outs. Maybe it's a generation thing.

Motorbreath You can do it, but considering how much technology went into designing the vehicle not to loose traction you might not want to. But that's just my 2 cents. I didn't buy a wrangler for speed or burning rubber, I have my GSXR and my harley for that department.

seadog Living in the southeast, it was always dumping the clutch. Popping was when you stalled out. Might be a regional thing.
