[QUOTE="forestryforlife21"]Hey so i bought the Jeep its amazing I love it I dont know how i lived my life without it..
Just one thing there is a rattle in the back end when i turn under low power, the owner says its the rear lockers... Does this mean I have spider gears? or what or is he full of stuff..[/QUOTE
Nope, a locker will make both wheels turn at the same speed. Its a long explaination but basically you have no more spider gears. Its a good thing, i've got one up front, the clicking reminds me that its there when i turn. Being that yours is in the rear be careful and learn to drive in rain and snow, if you try to drive it like normal it could put you all over the road.

|forestryforlife21||ok, hey thanks for the help!|

|jrussblues||K, since you did not replace the transmission then you don't know what kind of shape its in. My brother bought a yj that had a rebuilt tranny and that one lasted about 50k miles. The transmission shop said it looked like he was in 4wd on the pavement a lot...not sure what that meant but apparently it was bad enough to cause some problems. Take it to a mechanic, have them look at it thoroughly inspect the drive train. When they give you the ok then 6500 is great. If he says the compression is jacked or the motor will need to be replaced then its best to walk away. Oh, and you pay for the inspection, this is common as 200 bucks can save you 2k down the line.|

I drove my buddies 90's wrangler yesterday its a 2.5 and stick, i think i would like a stick however a auto is easier to use i guess

|forestryforlife21||Ok i hear yeah, he replaced the Transmission a little bit ago.|
|07-07-2011 12:46 PM|
|jrussblues||Nope, just plan on doing that first before you paint. Factor it into cost. He probably lowered the transfer case but if you do it right and add the sye and ds you'll be able to get everything back in line the way it should be. The other option would be to drive it as is and see if there are any problems. If not and it doesn't impact your enjoyment of the vehicle then don't worry about it. You will find that there are tons of ways to spend money on a jeep. I still think 6500 id a good deal given a mechanic checks out the drive train. The biggest expense you could take on would be replacing an engine/transmission/transfer case. Any of those could run you 1500 plus that you don't want to spend.|

|forestryforlife21||Ok it does not, should that effect my decision on it?|
|07-07-2011 12:38 PM|
|scgeek12||keep it that green looks awsome, ive got a 99 also and love it|
|07-07-2011 12:37 PM|
|jrussblues||The rear drive shaft where it connects to the transfer case under the car. Like the pic I attached.|
|07-07-2011 12:36 PM|
|07-07-2011 12:33 PM|
|forestryforlife21||Ok I will ask the owner.. So what should i post a picture of to see if it has one?|
|07-07-2011 12:28 PM|
|jrussblues||The factory tail housing on the rear of a np231 transfer case has a slip yoke coming out of the back. An aftermarket slip yoke eliminator shortens the housing and uses a u joint to attach to the drive shaft. Ask the owner if he did it. If you dont have the slip yoke eliminator it the drive shaft will vibrate and start damaging stuff. By the pics it looks like he did a pretty decent job, I would just ask. If you aren't sure then post a pic of where the drive shaft connects to the transfer case and any of the peeps on this site can tell you pretty quickly. To replace all of the parts and add labor im guessing it'll be around 750-900 bucks. Even if it doesn't have one im pretty sure 6500 is still a good buy. Also have a mechanic you trust check it out before you buy.|

|mevanking||test turing around at full wheel turn . with 33s on a 1.5 inch lift you might be having alot of rub . to eliminate that could cost some money .|
|07-07-2011 12:16 PM|
|jrussblues||Looking at at least a 3.5" lift not a 1.5" I would be interested in brand looks like the rear lower control arm is aftermarket. Smittybilt rear tire carrier, arb front. No body lift. Make sure there's a slip yoke eliminator. If not do that before you paint (way more important). Looks like a great deal at 6500. I would keep the green. Looks obnoxious but I hated my yellow when I bought it, in fact yellow is my least favorite color, but I like it on my jeep now. It'll probably grow on you.|
|07-07-2011 12:01 PM|
He was asking 9, however i have him down to 6,500 I still have to figure a way to re paint it. Its Rhino lined on the inside though!
|07-06-2011 07:52 PM|
|jrussblues||I would be concerned about the lift height and tire size. You should post a pic.|
|07-06-2011 06:26 PM|
|07-06-2011 06:18 PM|
i'd also like to see this lime green color. 1.5" with 33s will probably rub like crazy.
|07-06-2011 02:17 PM|
2= I'd rather drive a Lime Green Jeep than a [insert your car here]
3= Price / pics?? 4.0L engine, or the 4-banger?
|07-06-2011 12:21 PM|
I would also like to see pics. I have a black 99 Sport with 142K and change and love it. I bought it with 36K with the original transmission which still works like new today. Any idea why it was rebuilt? Perhaps an upgrade or gear change?
How many miles are on the tires?
The lime green would turn me off, but a paint job is always an option if the price is right.

Newb buying a 99 wrangler
Hey guys, I have been looking at jeeps for over a few months however I think I may have found my jeep..
99 Wrangler Sahara with a 1.5" lift on 33's, among many other things. Has a custom paint job, which can be see in the pictures I posted. Has a bit over 123,000 miles and had the transmission rebuilt about 40,000 miles ago. The car runs very strong and has been treated very well.
I know I'll forget some, but here are the extras I can remember:
Hardtop, full doors, two bikini tops (mesh and solid), running boards, custom grille guard, custom spare tire mount, air conditioning that runs strong, custom sound bar, steel braided brake lines, the lift and tires, mickey thompson rims and completely rhino lined.
However it is a very nice jeep, it is painted a Lime green, :/ thats the only down side so far..
Let me know what you pros think about a jeep like this?
