|lcpl Konicki||31's are 31 inches no matter how meaty they look. Oh and swampers look hard core and they are but they ware down extremly fast. If you are looking for a mean tire that you will get your money out of consider buying the bfg mud-terrains.|

|Jerry Bransford||Your X will clear 31" tires without a lift. You may need a washer under the two steering stop bolts to eliminate minor sidewall rubbing against the control arm when the steering wheel is turned all the way but that's it.|

|mrbigjeep||ok...this may be a dumb question but ill ask anyway...if i put rubicon coil springs on my x model tj will it sit as high as the rubicon? and can i clear 31 inch bfg muds? oh, and will i need to get the rubicon shocks or will the x model shocks be fine?|

If you have an older TJ that's had a winch at some time or a bigger bumper etc..... then your springs are a little tired and you would see some difference with any kind of brand new spring you put in there. If you can get some Rubicon springs/shocks for CHEAP (like free) then go for it. But like everyone else has said on here there is no difference in actual height between the Rubicon and any other TJ spring.

Well as for the above mentioned statement. I have a Rubi Unlimited With a new bumper and winch and I have about 1-1.5 in drop in my front so no, they didnt think ahead in spring rates for the Rubi Unlimited.

cool...right now it has the stock 29's on it...so instead of installing a washer can i just put rubicon coil springs under there and then NOT use a washer and not put a washer under there??? you said i could fit 31's but would i be able to fit a mud terrain 31? im not a big fan of all terrains and the reason im asking if a mud terrain would fit is because i know that sometimes they measure a lil bigger!
oh and "MellowLobster" - yes 50 dollars is a VERY GOOD price...on ebay brand new rubicon springs are a little over 150 dollars and slightly used ones (less than 1000 miles) are around 125 dollars

|Jerry Bransford||I don't believe it's anywhere near 1.5", maybe 1" at most. You can run 31" tires on an unlifted TJ though, you don't need taller springs. At the most, you'd only need to install a washer under each of the two steering stop bolts to prevent minor tire rub when the steering wheel is turned all the way left or right. |mrbigjeep||i've heard that they will give you 1 or 1.5 inches of lift which is enough to clear 31's...is it true?....cuz its a lot cheaper than a 2 inch coil lift and i am not gonna use spacers!|

Rubicon springs are not any taller, they are as was already said just a bit stiffer so the Jeep sits up a tad taller. Note it's just a "tad" taller, not worth it in my opinion to go to the trouble of swapping springs for the likely very small amount of lift.
If you're just trying to keep the costs down or aren't ready to go with a full-on suspension lift, some 1" or 2" spacers would do the trick. You might (but might not) get a minor vibration after installing 2" spacers but that is EASILY cured by dropping the t-case skidplate 1/2" with washers inserted between the skidplate and frame and placed around each of the six bolts that hold the skidplate.

Of all the times i've seen this subject it's always turned out the springs are the same height. As to the reason for the stiffer spring rate, I have no idea. The greater towing capacity for the LJ's is due to the longer wheel base.
MellowLobster: $50 sounds like a good price to me. Measure the jeep height to the fender or frame rails with the old springs and the height with the new ones, and see how much improvement you get. There would obviously be more lift gained if you have a 4 cyl and a soft top, vice a 4.0 with a hard top. I'm anxious to hear the results. You could stand the old springs next to the rubicon springs as well and report back if there's a difference.

|kbart||Why would the rubi's springs be stiffer? I can see why the unlimited's would be because maybe it's rated for more wieght or towing capacity. Or did they think ahead that the rubi owner would want a winch and HD tire rack? Could DC have thought....ahead?|

|lunneborgc||This has been argued many times, the rubicon springs are not any taller than any other stock TJ Springs. The only difference is the spring rate. They tend to be stiffer. If your current springs seem to be sagging and you put rubicon springs in it'll help the height. Most people say the get 1" lift, but the spring is not actually taller. If you can get them cheap go for it and see how it works out for ya. - Chris|

I was wondering if I bought rubicon suspension coils and replace my 2004 Wrangler X suspension coils if it would lift my Jeep up a little bit? Is there any difference between both of the suspension coils? Thanks!
