The long anticipated Memorandum of Understanding Between The Wisconsin Off-Highway Vehicle Association And The USDA, Forest Service Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest was signed, sealed and delivered to WOHVA earlier this month.
The Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) documents cooperation between the two parties. Additionally, the purpose of the MOU is to continue to develop and expand upon the framework of cooperation between WOHVA and the U.S. Forest Service (USFS) in the development of mutually beneficial programs, projects, and activities pertaining to the management of the Pipeline 4x4 Recreation Trail on the CNNF.
WOHVA & the USFS have been working together for over 8 years to provide quality riding experiences for WOHVA Members and other parties searching for safe, resource friendly areas to drive 4x4 vehicles and off-highway motorcycles in the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest (CNNF). It is mutually beneficial for both WOHVA and the USFS to work cooperatively to further develop the conservation ethic of motorized recreation enthusiasts. The MOU recognizes WOHVA’s efforts to instill greater understanding of the needs for responsible motorized recreation through environmental education awareness. Further, the MOU points out that both the USFS and WOHVA share the common responsibility and interest of developing and disseminating relevant OHV information to the public regarding conservation, recreation and natural resource activities as they relate to motorized recreation on the CNNF.
The MOU is effective as of June 24th, 2011 and through June 1st, 2016. After the fifth year, the MOU will expire unless extended by an executed modification approved by both the USFS & WOHVA. Additional details on the MOU can be obtained from the WOHVA Executive Committee. The document will be available for review at the WOHVA Board of Directors Meeting on August 10th and at WOHVA’s 8th Annual Wisconsin OHV Enthusiasts Workshops on April 12th, 13th & 14th, 2012.
