i wanted to figure that out this summer. two 220 lbs friends were on my sidestep when i drove on a 30 degrees angle. when they left the sidestep one of them could lift the TJs side with about 50 lbs weight. i think that 35 degrees would have been to much for my TJ.
to the front/rear 45 degrees are very safe.

|RIPBiker13||I read somewhere that the rollover is 41deg on driver side, 45deg on passenger side, and 50-51deg front to rear. I've done more than that front to rear but it felt REALLY hairy.|

I can and have pushed my rig many times to 45 degrees and beyond. How far I don't know, but not far.
Stop off at Wal Mart and pick up a cheap trailer angle meter for about $6 bucks or so. It only goes to 45 degrees. I have mine mounted center on the windshield frame above the rear view mirror.

It is very hard to say. A LOT will depend on geography, how your TJ is sitting, and what is coming up.
When I laid mine over last year, I was at about 35 degrees and it felt okay but leaning good. I then proceeded forward and my low side front wheel dropped into a hole and it quickly went to 90 degrees. You can see where my tire fell 'down' and slipped.
This is the result.
There are other times I've been on a smooth surface at 40 degrees and been fine. Soil conditions, etc all play a role.
I'd say if I HAD to put a number on it, say below 35-40 degrees and you're okay, for the most part, but again, terrain is the big factor.

If I had to hazard a guess (and don't quote me on it) I'd say do not exceed 30 degrees (side to side) and no more then 45 front to rear. I recently bought and inclinometer form Quadratec and that's kind of the rough figures the little pictures had indicated (for whatever they are worth). Of course, like the packaging said: "In no way is this meant to be used as a safety device and should be used as a reference only",,...
Basically when your ass starts to pucker real hard then you know you are on the edge of failure (or you need to take a dump). My advice would be to take a dump before you go wheelin' to avoid confusion....

Anyone know what the approximate rollover angle would be for my tj? 4.0, D30/44,3-1/2" RE suspension lift, 1" BL, 33x12.50's (15" with 3.75 backspacing). Not an unlimited. Close counts - I just want to know approximately what to stay away from. . .
