jjseel I had a hard time believing the deal I got at Wally-world! If you use the Comp spkr, use the slave, not the powered one

jjseel Thanks Skeeter! My extra computer speaker plugged right in! Where it was turned all the way up, now only needs 1/4 power! Sounds much clearer also. I love free mods!

skeeter The speakers they put in radios are pathetic due to size, enclosure and expense, they're trying to build the cheapest "functional"radio they can.
External speakers make a world of difference, you don't need anything fancy, my favorite was actually a cheap set of walkman speakers, I just cut one off.

"W4MAC" If you have a RF gain control, try turning it down some. Most truck drivers clip the audio limiter, which will over drive your receive at close range. Also a external speaker is usually pointed more at you, so you don't have to turn the volume up so far to here it over the road noise. You probally don't need an expencive ext speaker, just a larger diameter may sound better. Like 4 inch.

Bought this radio for the Jamboree. It worked very well on the trail, out of sight, over hills and valleys. On the Highway, I can only inderstand about 1/4 of conversations, is it the radio, or just the speaker? What's the deal with extra speakers? Are they powered? Expensive? Most transmissions sound like the speaker is over-driven, very hard to understand. It was crystal-clear on the trail. Never used a CB much, but I figured, since it was in the JEEP, I would listen to it on the road - it didn't keep me much company!
