DTS The "early" (2007-2011) JK Extreme Duty Crossmember has been updated with metric welded-in nuts so that you may now re-use your stock skid plate bolts. This product used to have slightly smaller 3/8" SAE threads, for which we provided new grade 8 bolts. Now, it comes without bolts but you re-use the stock metric ones. This is something we did with the new 2012 crossmembers when we introduced them, and just implemented the same change on the most recent run of the 2007-2011 ones.

DTS 2012 JK owners, here's the Extreme Duty Crossmember you've been waiting for! The JK's new powertrain rendered the 207-2011 crossmember design obsolete for 2012 and later JK's. Fortunately, Poison Spyder now makes a versio of our Extreme Duty Crossmember specifically designed to fit these 2012 and later* Jeeps!



Like the 2007-2011 Extreme Duty Crossmember, this one is also fabricated from two overlapping sections of 3/16" plate steel. The two halves are CNC laser cut and brake-formed, then nested so that the sides of the crossmember are a ridiculous 3/8" thick! We also switched to metric weld-nuts so that you may re-use your OE skid plate bolts (a change that will also be made on the 2007-2011 versions soon).

*Disclaimer: we have not physically verified fitment on 2013's yet. We do not anticipate a fitment issue because the drivetrain components essentially stayed the same through the model year transition. However we will test-fit specifically on a 2013 model as soon as we have the opportunity!

DTS R&D and test-fitting of the 2012 version of the Extreme Duty Crossmember is complete, these will be in production within the next few weeks.



BTW this spy photo is of one of the prototypes just tacked together. The finished ones will of course be fully welded

DTS We see a lot of you guys installing skid systems under your JK's. Protecting the underside of your Jeep is a good idea, but don't just bolt those beefy new skid plates to the chintzy stock crossmember! Remember, if your aftermarket skid mounts to the stock crossmember, it will also mount to the Poison Spyder EXTREME DUTY Crossmember, removing the last weak link in your underside armor strategy!

You'll re-use the four large OE bolts that attach the stock crossmember to the frame. We provide new bolts for the stock skid plates where they attach to the crossmember. This is because the captured nuts we weld to the inside of the crossmember are SAE, while the OE bolts are metric. So we provide 5 new Grade 8 SAE bolts for the skids. Thanks for your inquiry!

sneck I'm sure a new cross member will be in my future, especially after a promising looking Thanksgiving run; do you provide new hardware? Or what do most people that have destroyed their cross member done for new hardware?

Poison Spyder JK Extreme Duty Trans-Mount Crossmember

Is your stock crossmember pretzeled, taco'd, and beat up from the rocks? Ours was, so we designed the beefiest replacement crossmember on the market! AVAILABLE NOW (no pre-order waiting!)



Replace your JK's weak stock transmission crossmember with Poison Spyder's Extreme Duty Crossmember! This ultra-beefy crossmember is constructed of two pieces of CNC laser cut, precision brake-formed 3/16" plate steel. Both the upper and the lower plate have full side plates, which completely nest when welded together to form double-wall, seriously beefy, 3/8" thick sides! Why is that important? Check out the damages stock crossmember in the photos below. When getting high-centered on the rocks, with the entire 5,000+ pounds of a trail-ready JK resting entirely on the crossmember, it can tend to bend upward in the middle, or as we say, "Taco". The double-wall sides of the Poison Spyder Extreme Duty Crossmember put the extra strength where its needed most to prevent the Taco-effect—in the side walls of the crossmember.



The 3/16" (.188" thick) top plate and bottom plate provide far superior protection against dents and bends than the stock crossmember, which is made of a piece of 1/8" (.125" thick) and 14-gauge (.083" thick) stamped sheetmetal. Incredibly, the Chrysler engineers decided to put the much thinner 14-gauge piece along the bottom, making it crumple at the mere sight of rocks. The steel used in the Poison Spyder crossmember is 33% thicker on the top plate, and 2˝ times thicker on the bottom plate. And the 3/16" brake-formed steel plate of the Poison Spyder Extreme Duty Crossmember has brake-formed corners all the way around—there are no welds on the box corners.



Inside the crossmember, Poison Spyder fabricators have welded in four DOM tubing spacers to provide crush-proof strength at the crossmember mounting bolt locations. These are made of .120" wall DOM tubing. Compare that to the stock crossmember, which uses stamped sheetmetal spacers.

The Poison Spyder Extreme Duty Crossmember matches the external dimensions and bolt locations of the stock crossmember. All stock skid plates that were attached to the stock crossmember attach to the Poison Spyder Extreme Duty Crossmember. Any other manufacturer's aftermarket skid plate system that attached to the stock crossmember should still attach to the Poison Spyder Extreme Duty Crossmember.

The Poison Spyder Extreme Duty Crossmember is shipped as bare steel, ready for you to paint or powder coat in the color of your choice.
