Better reliability, and less stuff to warranty. There were a lot of issues with the vacuum disconnect in the YJ's, to the point where companies were in business almost exclusively to build parts to eliminate it... It will affect your gas mileage a bit, but possibly not enough to notice.

Hackle Yes you can istall a passenger TJ shaft. As stated you will need to build a plate to cover the disconnect box. You will also need to install a seal on the outside of the disconnect box to hold in fluid. That some times fun to get in but a normal TJ D30 seal will fit. You will need to polish the spot on the shaft that rides in the seal and expect to replace one or two until the shaft is smooth enough to not tear up the seal.

cadamson so you can replace the passenger side axle with a tj axle? what good is the disconect then? why bother with the split axle or whatever its called on the yj? Seems like the disconnect is really useless to me. Only there to cause a problem when it doesnt work. Does it have a usefull function? Maybe i am missing something. I guess it could be usefull if you had a locker up front but other than that ......

any ideas?

I don't really see how the front driveshaft free spinning is going to hurt your gas mileage. There really isn't any more resistence there.

jeepocalypse thank you all that is what i was hoping (tj opperation) for anyone forsee any disaster? im sure my gas milage may worsen a tiny bit ? but who care if i dont have to worry about hanging up on that mechanical engagement

Good job on just a couple hours of sleep. If you run TJ shafts, it will work like a TJ, your front d-shaft will spin all the time, but won't be getting power unless you put it in 4wd. You will have to seal off the vacuum section of the housing, and plug the vacuum line...

4Jeepn I am running on about 1hr of sleep.. so if I am wrong let me know..LOL The answer is YES, but you need to cover over the vacum box housing, and may need to do something to the vacum system. The posi lock I think is if you keeping the two section shaft and want a more reliable way to enguage it.

whitebuffalo i built my own "posi-lock" for about 20 bucks and it hasnt let me down yet. and im spooled, so im constantly engaging and disengaging it.....

AzTJ Do some searching on an item called a "Posi-Lock". If will get rid of the vacuum and replace it with a manual engagement.

rebelBullDawg325 the axel would be disengaged from the t-case, but i think that the wheel would "locked" togeher.... hard to explain what i mean by locked, but not locked as in a locker. but i'm no axle expert. someone will chime in and helpyou for sure within the next day or so

jeepocalypse thank you for the reply! i was hoping to just let the tcase do the work of dissengagement i see your point however thanks again anyone else have any ideas?

axle shaft question

93 yj 2.5 dana 30 can i remove the stock axle shaft on pass. side and replace w/ 1 piece tj to eliminate 2 piece vaccume opperated axle shaft
