bluvikng I have a Warn winch, and I have a friend that has the Mile Marker winch. The Mile Marker does not have replaceable parts, or solenoid. The line speed is slower, but that is not always a bad thing. My friend has the 12,000 lb. MM, and it has lasted him for several years.

Usually when you are using the winch, you will be in the drivers seat..........just put your foot on the gas pedal and raise the rpm's up a little bit. I have also seen people install an idler switch on their dash. It will lock in your throttle at 1,000 rpm's or so.

bluvikng Anytime you put extra strain on a battery, it is a good idea to idle the engine faster, to keep up with the drain. I use a 9000 lb. winch with only one battery, and it does fine. The only things to consider with a winch is recovery speed, and replacement parts. How easy will it be to get parts from Black Mountain? What kind of warranty do they have? What kind of service do they have? Those are some of the questions that I would want to know the answers to. I paid more for my winch, I know that I have a great service team behind me. The line speed is faster than any other manufacturer out there. I know their reputation, and there dedication to keep me a happy user.

The Power To Winch

If I were to put an 8000 lb. winch on my tj would i have enough power to run this off of one optima red top? Would i need an additional battery? What should i expect? Last, has anyone heard anything or have any experience with the black mountain winch? I saw one on Ebay with plate, snatch, roller, and winch for 450.00. Would it be wise to go with an off-name winch?
