Symmi It could be a Rubicon Sahara or an LJ unlimited. Those are the two I noticed that have been produced more recently. Read XJ Knight's two posts and look for the unlimited models...

billytheyj Cj was first designated for civilian jeep. After that it became a wrangler with the yj tj and jk for model year designations. Or...

Crusty jeep
Yomper jeep
Uhhhhh turd jeep?
Just kidding

^^^^ all in good fun. No offense meant to anyone!

daggo66 CJ was an actual model designation. The rest are factory designations.
05-24-2011 08:16 AM
InfernoGirl Yes, the CJ, YJ, TJ, JK designations pertain to the years they were built. And yes your '05 is a TJ. Each designation change occurred with a change in the body style, etc.

Understanding Jeep classifications - TJ/JK/etc

I'm 100% new to Jeeps. So, I want to make sure I'm understanding these classifications right:

Are the sub-class, TJ, JK, etc, related purely to the year of the wrangler? So, my new jeep, 2005 Wrangler X, would be a Wrangler X TJ?

These forums are the only place I really found the classifications defined, and it's merely in a sub-forum description box. So, I wanted to make sure I understand it right.

Thanks.
