If no luck after doing all the above, don't disregard the starter itself. Another vehicle I have did the exact same thing you described (without the rocking method). Turns out it was the starter solenoid.
I'd try the simpler things already mentioned before going after the starter, though.

Take a few minutes and take off the steering column cover (2 screws)
Remove multi-function switch (switch for turn signal and wipers)
Remove the one screw for the ignition switch.
From right to left on the bottom of the column
1. key ignition cylinder
2. Ignition switch actutator (piece of metal and plastic on the very bottom)
3. Ignition switch
Once the ignition switch is removed use a screw driver in the switch and see if the Jeep starts.
One very common point of failure is the switch actuator between the cylinder and the ignition switch.

I don't know anything in Jeep Specific, but I know in general mechanics, that's the first thing you check when that happens. Second is your alarm system (if you have one. It might be going off and you not even know).

Jeep will not crank or start
Hi! I bought my jeep rubicon a few months ago and it has driven great. In the last week or so there were some occasions where when I turned the key radio, lights etc would come on but it would not crank. No noises or anything, almost like the battery was dead but it wasn't (I did try jumping it but that did not work). It eventually started after I rocked the car a little. Today it would not start even after rocking the jeep multiple times. I checked fuses, tried jumping it, disconnected then reconnected the battery and tried just giving it time but nothing worked. The only sound I could hear at all is a light click from somewhere behind the glovebox when I turned the key. Any ideas on what would cause this, I worry a mechanic will run all types of expensive tests only to find out it something simple, easy and cheap. Thanks!
