WOHVA Update August, 2011
Since our last update, WOHVA has been working diligently assuring that environmentally responsible OHV recreational opportunities remain available nationwide and are expanded here the Badger State. Just a few of the things WOHVA has been up to recently include:
WOHVA Volunteers gathered for three Mole Lake Trail Days. If you’re interested in joining us in Mole Lake and becoming a WOHVA trail volunteer, visit our forums for information on getting involved. A complete listing of all WOHVA’s scheduled events for 2011 (including Mole Lake Trail Days) is available under the WOHVA Events tab on our web site.
Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest (CNNF) staffers from the Laona/Lakewood Ranger District and WOHVA met to discuss details for WOHVA’s current RTP Grant to rehabilitate the major access route for heavy equipment to Forest Road #55552 (The Pipeline).
Discussion centered on trail implementation of the current Grant and extended maintenance (as well as future funding) for The Pipeline. WOHVA anticipates hands-on implementation of the First Grant for The Pipeline to begin on-the-ground work in early September. Watch the WOHVA Website for updates on how you can assist WOHVA in saving this valuable motorized recreational resource with your volunteer efforts.
WOHVA participated in a meeting of the Crandon Off-Road Vehicle Park, Inc. (CORVPI) Board of Directors. Focus of the meeting centered on establishing a schedule of regular meeting, development of corporate by-laws, filing paperwork with the Internal Revenue Service and developing a website to be used as a venue to disseminate information to motorized recreation advocates and sponsors.CORVPI is actively searching for motorized recreationists to serve in the capacity of Directors for their organization. The 16th Annual Northwoods-Mole Lake Jeep Jamboree USA was held on the Sokaogon-Chippewa properties in Mole Lake, Wisconsin. This was WOHVA’s fourth year serving in the capacity of Local Host Organization. WOHVA met with a group of other active stakeholders to discuss contemporary issues of concerns regarding U.S. Forest Service properties in Michigan, Minnesota & Wisconsin. Other stakeholders included Plum Creek Timber, Ruff Grouse Society and Association of Wisconsin Snowmobile Clubs.Signed hardcopy of the Memorandum of Understanding Between The Wisconsin Off-Highway Vehicle Association And The USDA, Forest Service, Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest was received by WOHVA. Additional details on the MOU can be found on the WOHVA Blog. The document will be available for review at the WOHVA Board of Directors Meeting on August 10th.
WOHVA events were covered by press media from across the state including; News 12 in Rhinelander, The Wausau Daily Herald, The Forest Republican and the Rhinelander Daily News. WOHVA mailed out our Quarterly 4WD/OHM Registration Program Update. Clubs receiving this mailing included: 4X4 Forever, Ltd. Badgerland 4WD Club, Inc. Damage, Inc. 4X4 Club Extreme Offroaders, Legendary Civilian Jeepers, Trailgator 4-Wheelers. These Clubs are actively supporting WOHVA’s 4WD/OHM Sticker Program and receive regular (quarterly) project updates from WOHVA. Be sure to ask your club to share these updates with all your members! This report is also emailed to all names on the WOHVA 4WD/OHM Sticker Programs Mailing List. WOHVA mails out our Quarterly Motorized Recreation Area (MRA) Update to those clubs having submitted a letter of support for the Forest County MRA Project, this update is also emailed to every individual currently on the WOHVA MRA Email Mailing List. Clubs receiving the March mailing included: Borderline 4x4 Trail Seekers, Damage,Inc. 4X4 Club, The Off-Road Superfans, UPJeeping. Be sure to ask your club president to share these updates with all your members at your regular club meetings! If your club is not receiving these updates, ask your club president why your club has not stepped up in support of motorized recreation here in the Badger State? WOHVA posted the quarterly update on legislation to increase representation and improve user group input to the Wisconsin Governor’s State Trails Council. These quarterly updates are available on the WOHVA web site (WOHVA.com). Click on AB600 in the Project Section to view these updates.. WOHVA’s event (4th Annual Great Northern Trail Ride) was again featured in Peterson’s 4-Wheel & Off-Road Magazine. The 4th Annual Great Northern Trail Ride is being held on August 18th, 19th & 20th. More information and registration details can be found under the “Events” tab on the WOHVA web site at WOHVA.com.
The June 2011 Issue of Badger Tracks (WOHVA’s newsletter) saw publication last month. Articles included in this issue include: High-Centered (a new regular feature focusing on one simple thing you can personally do to advocate for access here in the Badger State), WOHVA’s Ridge Line Creek Clean-Up and Pavement Patriotism by Del & Stacie Albright.
