I only recommend used because its the same parts the rebuilder will put in, the same weak parts, the AX5 is defiantly know for failing.
When mine fails, I have a NV3550, with a Chevy smallblock all lined up, there is a 94 Z71 sitting at work waiting for winter so I can put my hard top on and park the YJ outside, pull the Chevy in and gut it....
Just gotta buy the 3550 to NP231J adapter and motor mounts...

|SaltyGator06||I just got an ax-15 from mans-tran delivered to the door for $867.00. But add a new clutch, master, slave, and labor (renting a trans jack and a couple of twelve packs for me) and your creeping up there.|

I was thinking the synchros were bad by your description.
Sorry you had to spend so much, next time think Craigslist, Ebay or Pick and Pull. Im sure you could have gotten it cheaper....

|misweetrevenge||my clutch has like an inch or so of place. feels too much for me but this is my first hydrolic clutch. my mustang was a mechanical. and it did feel like the clutch has never fully engage. and is the clutch fluid supposed to be watery i thought it was more oilyish than it is. and when im in neutral it rolls (with the clutch in) and i put it in reverse and it stops rolling (clutch still in)? im really starting to get my hopes up that its the clutch or the slave. anyone agree or disagree let me know. i can do engine but never messed with tranny or clutch. thanks guys.|

|rockcrawln||Sounds like a Slave or the master clutch cylinder... if it was u clutch u wouldnt b able to put it in first or reverse easily...good luck feller|

|drhodes||Check fluids if they're the color they should be (redish) and full replace the slave. Worst comes to worse its probably your clutch, it won't come out of gear because the clutch isn't engaging. If it'd move odds are the tranny is ok just don't drive it until you figure it out. Good luck.|

i need hope.... tranny symptoms...
so i think my tranny went out last night. but i really hope its something else so i want to get more opinions...
heres the symptoms...
-wont go into 3rd or 5th while moving
-can use 3rd but have to put it in while stopped and waste my clutch
-in neutral and clutch out it grinds but cluth in its fine
-can not down shift at all no matter what gear im in
btw i was driving normal. (easy on the tranny and gas)
last time i went off road was about 2 months ago
im really hoping its something else but i have a feeling it is my tranny
