dash not working

My 99 does the same thing, just occaisonally stops working. The airbag light comes on and stays lit, but everything else goes off and the needles stop working on the speedo and tach. A good hit from my fist on top of the dash works.

The guy I bought it from says there is a ground wire behind the radio that he used to fiddle with to make it come back. I am getting ready to swap radios in it and will look at that.

bubthechub I have the same problem with my 99 tj and have looked through the Haynes manual for clues with no luck. Let me know if you find out what it is.

Hicook722 Do you have any suggestions where I can find wiring information on the 2000 Wrangler?? Would a shop manual explain anything?? I haven't found anything online at all.

bluvikng Yeah, I know it is a mess, and can really give you a big problem. That is the problem they were having with my YJ, trying to get all the gauges, lights, etc. to work. It is a pain staking process for sure. Now you understand why the dealership wanted $1500 to do it. It is very labor intense.

Hicook722 We are working on it, what fuse could affect the entire instument panel?? There are so many fuses in so many places, even a big box of them under the hood!!

bluvikng Have you checked all of your fuses, and resistors?

no power to instument panel Jeep Wrangler

I have a 2000 Jeep Wranger, manual transmission, no airconditioning. I had some broken wires when an idiot put the battery on top of a wire bundle and shorted out the jeep. It runs fine since repairing these wires but now the instument panel does not work.

Does not work: oil pressure gauge, temperature gauge, fuel gauge, battery gauge, radio, cigarette lighter, back windshield wiper.

Works: turn signals, engine light, instrument panel back light.

I would appreciate any suggestions for this problem. The dealership wanted $1500 to replace the harness that had the bad wires, so we repaired the wires. Any ideas!!!!
