1BLKJP Primedia? I thought they all got bought out by Source Interlink?

Good to hear that this hasn't been missed. Good for you staying on top of it. I definitely plan to hit big bear for some wheelin hopefully even this summer. TINY you HEAR that?
04-20-2008 07:29 PM
Rawkon good news and bad news!!!

Good news is we didnt miss the clean up. I have some friends with Primedia (the guys who own most of the four wheel drive mags) and they put some pressure on the OHV manager to get some info.

Bad news is there was no clean up and theres no date for a clean up day. Im gonna get my friends to put some pressure on him to let us just go in there and have at it. its retarded that nothing has been done with sooo many volunteers. Right now is perfect up there not hot not cold and the ground is wet.

Rawkon Thanks Eric, I wont be able to make it either, Ive been called into work. (first saturday ive ever been called in go figure) also my contact the OHV manager hasnt responded to 2 emails sent this month. I still dont have a time or place to meet. It seems like the closer we get the more flaky he gets.
04-15-2008 09:46 AM
emills Sadly - I can't make it. I will be in Big Bear for a charity event that I have had scheduled for a while. But here is a bump for you since this is this weekend.

RedRubiTJ Bump!

Rawkon FINALLY!!!!!!!
April 19th 2008. put it on your calendar.
I asked about helping on the harder trails up there. and i also asked about further detail on time and place of meeting and gear needed.

Ive been waiting for this. I wasn't able to attend the meeting due to the short notice but im still in contact with the OHV manager.

"We had over 100 people there representing 38 clubs. Good meeting. We have
> an Earth Day Project scheduled for April 19th. This will be to do
> maintenance on the roads in the burn areas."

Rawkon Hi Kevin, we have a meeting scheduled for tomorrow night, January 16th.
This will be held at the Corona Sizzler exit I-15 at Magnolia just south of
the 91 freeway. We will have over 2,500 off roaders represented by
individual club representatives. You and your group are invited to attend
and give us your input. We get together at 6 PM-7PM to eat and enjoy each
others company. The meeting starts at 7 PM. If you can't go, maybe you
can ask another person your associated with to attend.

Thanks a bunch Kevin!

so if anyone wants to head out let me know, I dont know for sure if i can make it but im gonna try.

Rawkon Hey guys I just sent another email to Greg (OHV manager). as soon as i hear back ill let you know. as you recall i was told that jan would be our first chance of workin out there. but with the current snow, i wouldnt be suprised if we will be pushed back. ill post up as soon as i find out whats going on. thanks for you patience all.

erickpl You could use those bulldozers to your advantage if you are wanting to perhaps 'build up' a few areas on the trails. Perhaps even add some rocks. Those trails can serve as a fire break line if properly maintained.

May be worth asking them about it...
12-17-2007 03:57 PM
Rawkon still no update, I hope he sends something soon. i checked out alot of the burned area a couple weekends ago. its not too bad. downside is they had lots of bulldozers back there.
12-06-2007 09:44 AM
emills Still interested in helping. Just let us know the date.

And thanks for taking the time and initiative to set it up.
12-06-2007 01:09 AM
Rawkon yea i dont understand what takes so long, i could have had alot of th stuff done by now with a small group.
12-02-2007 05:53 PM
VVJeepFreaks If I can make it ill be there. It took too long getting some of the trails back after the Willow Fire in 99.
11-25-2007 10:57 PM
Rawkon I finally have heard back from the OHV manager. things are still a GO. He looking at sometime in january. so as it gets closer and i get a date ill let you all know as soon as I do. Thanks guys for your patience.
11-12-2007 01:07 AM
Rawkon Now that the so cal fires have died ill be sending the OHV manager another email like he asked. as soon as i get s response i will let youall know. thanks for your patience guys.
they just reopend the forest up there except for the burned areas.
10-24-2007 06:06 PM
Rawkon Im hoping to get the Big Bear Fire explorers out there with us too. my little brother is a member and is pushing for volunteers in the group.
10-24-2007 04:09 PM
1BLKJP Yeah, I would imagine there won't be any recreating going on up there for quite some time until all the smoke clears and the smoldering grounds are put out permanently.

However after all of this is all said and done there is going to be an even bigger need for trail repairs and working thru agencies to put things back to normal.
10-24-2007 10:46 AM
Rawkon I just received this message this morning

the latest form the OHV manager.

"Let's see how the current fires plays out and prioritize when things cool off"
10-24-2007 09:57 AM
RedRubiTJ Currently ALL San Bernardino National Forest trails are closed. Until the fires are stopped, I am sure we won't know anything.
10-24-2007 09:50 AM
emills Any news on this? I am assuming that the fires are making plans difficult.

As the others have stated. After a fire any kind of trails are virtually unrecognizable. We are dealing with the same thing here in AZ. A fire went thru a trail and they closed it off. If it wasn't for us being so persistent in re-cutting this trail it would just stay closed.
10-16-2007 03:02 PM
Rawkon with the rain and 50mph wind gusts we had the trails are gonna be jacked after that fire. fallen trees and land slides galore.
10-16-2007 12:56 PM
MouthfulOfGrass I think, regardless of debris, if you have a trail "clean up" then the trail can be opened up again much sooner for 'wheeling.

Vector6 just a question... wouldn't the fire have "cleaned up" most of the debris?

10-09-2007 05:48 PM

10-09-2007 05:43 PM
