JeepAddOns-Chris I'm not seeing anything in your post with pics?

If it's a bolt on cage addition, you shouldn't have any problems at all with either top.

creeze Chris,

Tha cage is not actually welded on to the frame, it is bolted. There is a picture of the back of the jeep in my original post. Let me know if you can't see it...

JeepAddOns-Chris You mentioned your cage was welded in the rear. Depending on how far back your cage goes, Bestop may or may not work. It folds down differently than a factory cage and you may not have the clearance. Post some pics and someone can help you out to let you know if you can run one.

PaulRevere1991 ok, then you can use the stock soft top hardware, there are a few components to the hardware and you need all of them to make it watertight.
-tub rails
-windshield bar
-pillar covers(goes on each side of windshield)
-main frame
-tailgate bar

if you plan on getting a hardtop/full doors in the future you'll want to get a supertop. or find one used.

aekdbrich check to see if there is a good Jeep club in your area. Sometimes you can get lucky and they have some spare parts laying around. Also, make sure to keep an eye on craigslist for other Jeepers that may just be trying to clean out their garage or have made mods to their Jeep and don't need their extra stuff. Good luck!

By the way, I love my Supertop.

creeze Paul... I have half doors.

Aekdbrich... I keep bouncing the idea of the Besttop, but didn't know if there was a cheaper option.

Thank you both for the replies...

aekdbrich Well you might as well go all out and order a Bestop Supertop so you don't have to deal with all that hardware with all the snaps. I know that you might spend a little more, but overall, I think you'll be happier with the results.

PaulRevere1991 you need the frame, for the oft top to work, i would try crigslist, people usually sell old soft tops and hardware for about 150, and you can always get a new skin to fit the hardware.
do you have full doors or half doors?

Newbie with soft Top question

I just purchased this 89 Jeep Wrangler. It has a home made, welded cage on the back. It does not have a door surround. In order to add a softtop before winter, do I need to order a kit that includes a more standard frame, or can I just order a standard repacement top (and save several hundred dollars)? The jeep has the track all around.
