|Boesch||I have an 81 CJ7 with a small block Chevy 350 and a 3 speed transmission. I have a 20 mile drive one way to school. I'm averaging about 8 MPG's but it's a straight shot. It gets a little hard to handle once I get about 60 mpg due to the 33' swampers but she's a champ. I only take her to class to show her off. But my buddy has a 98 TJ with 33's but only a 4 cylinder with an automatic transmission, he gets about 13-14 highway.|

I have a short drive of about 8 miles to work and most of it is on that highway which is nice. My cj is not a good example of mpg. It gets about 10-11 mpg. I've got a overdrive tranny but that's offset with a v8, gears and tires. I would expect a cj on 31" tires with a 258 would get maybe 14-15 mpg.
Of course my TJ only gets about 12-13mpg. Again not a good average example.
How far you driving?

Plenty of power to cruise 60-65 easy. Suspension and steering is tight but no sway bars and narrow track axles can cause work if on a grooved highway.
That particular road is fairly new so it's a good drive in to work. Kick up some tunes, sit back and let her purr.
$4/gallon for premium hurts though.

Here's my '82 CJ-7. It's been in storage for almost a year. I'm hoping to get it out of storage this summer and get to fixing a bunch of things on it.
When I first got it:
AMC 401, T-18, D-300, Dana 30 Front, AMC 20 Rear. 35" Baja Claws, 4" Lift

Love your B Duffer.
Looking back through this thread, it looks like my pics of the '71 are no longer visible since Multiply folded.
So here is a re-post of my pics of the '71...
Pre-paint, circa early 1997
A month after paint, at the first Jeep Jamboree ever held in PA
I sold the '71 in 2007 to a guy who has become a good friend. Here is Don, continuing the abuse:

A few pics of the B.
I bought it in 1972 and it has been in a flux field of some sort ever since. It's about to get version number 4 of the small block Chevy (1st was a 62 327, 2nd a 1970 LT1, and the 3rd a 381-and what is in the pictures).

My 1978 CJ5, stock pretty much. New Bestop supertop, new seats, found some OEM wheels dated 1977, spare is original to the jeep. Still has the 1 bbl carb, 258 6 cyl

1974 CJ5 I restored for my dad.
My dad wanted a stock CJ, except the carburetor issues when he goes up in altitude in the Idaho mountains. Runs good on the howell TBI.
