Thanks! I was aware of neither the soft top formulation nor the newer version of the traditional FB.

I have used FB for years in my 24 year old sedan.

I will be wary of the new stuff. I will also look for the soft top dye.

Thanks! I look forward to your hard top pics!

VARIABLE9 2000 TJ

I installed this bumper from Smittybilt - PO had an accident so the typical corner was bent in and the plastic 'q-tip' end of the OEM bumper was missing. Simple install, six bolts - just need to figure out front license plate mount and driving / fog light mount; there are holes on the Smittybilt bumper but I am not sure if I am going to use those or somewhere else.

It is easily twice as thick and is much softer, folding easily and neatly where the Bestop one folded hard and sharply, always looking like it was about to crack or split (which it did over time).

The old OEM one was stored in a box since about 2005 when the owner bought a hard top after moving up north. Recently he moved back and sold the TJ. After that he found the old top, but not the windows or the frame.

I bought it from him for cheap. It is in excellent physical shape, but the dirt and pollen that sat on it since 2006 stained it. But the edges that fold over and connect to the windows are still looking pretty new and dark.

I removed my torn up Bestop and installed this very old top. Perfect fit, tight as a drum, looks great (except for the color on the top).

No more rain coming in through the holes above my head, no more loose, flappiness on the highway, and the Bestop windows fit perfectly and still look pretty new.

Score!

Time to get ready for work. See y'all!
You can dye it with Forever Black convertible top black dye. I did mine and it looks like brand new. I also used Forever Black (old trim formula, they don't make it any longer and I prefer the old stuff.) to dye a hard top that was faded badly and looked gray. Will post some before and after pics of the hardtop next week if I can find the time.

You mean that whole plate that goes behind shoe?
I didn't have a problem once I got the parking brake strut on there :-/
Regardless it wasn't there on disassembly.

That is what I was thinking. I am going to have to take the dash off to fix what ever I messes up with the HVAC vents, so when I do, I will trace those wires and se where they go.

So tonight after we got home, my 8 year old jeeper and I installed the new "OEM STYLE" fog light rocker switch from Gold Coast Distributers. Also figured out that the old 97 was prewired for something, but not sure what yet. and sadly, while I was running wire behind the dash, I somehow messed up my HVAC sytem vents. Now they only blow air out of the defrost vents no matter where I slide the arm to. SUCK!!! Oh well, this fix will have to wait for another night.

Had the following leftovers in the bag. No matching shit came off either wheel, so I didn't put back on. I suppose I could reference the FSM...
