Briangr Thats a good point...i suppose any machine/welding shop would be able to re-attach it like that?

And as far as the rear tow hooks, the holes are too small to fit a tow line thru, so i picked up a massive carrabeaner thats used for huge boat anchors, and i put that thru the tow hasnt bent yet

tj00wrangler Does the pin for the hinge go through the bumper? If it is just welded to the surface, it will brake again. The pin needs to go through the bumper for strength.

One more thing. I notice that your tow points on the bumper are not very thick. I'm sure if you were to pull from an angle they will bend. Personally I think they should be much thicker and go all the way through.

Briangr Thanks for the reply buddy. Idk anything about welding, but i assumed getting it welded back on would be the best way to go. Any idea what a little job like this would cost me roughly?

Shelby427 Hmm, looks like a poor weld, no penetration into the hinge portion.
Possibly the heavier metal of the hinge didn't get hot enough as he was being careful not to burn through the lighter bar stock of the bumper.
Yep take it to welding shop and have em grind off the old weld and redo it.

Custom Rear Tire Carrier (Broken)

The previous owner of my jeep was a pipe welder, and he made stainless steel bumpers for my jeep (pretty cool). He also made custom made a stainless steel tire carrier for the rear bumper. Unfortunately the tire carrier broke off the bumper today. Ill try to explain the set up, using pictures.

The Jeep

The Tire Carrier

Part of the Bumper the hinge for the carrier is welded to

Hinge on the tire carrier

Other side of the tire carrier, and other side of the bumper

What happened is the spring that holds down the metal pin (displayed in last two pictures, and also the 2nd picture-left side of bumper-) gave out, and the only thing holding the tire carrier on was the hinge, and the tiny latch on the top. Bouncing down the road started to stress the hinge, so i tightened things up with a ratchet tie. When i started to undo the ratchet to inspect things tonight, the tire carrier just fell off the bumper

Im guessing i need to take it to someone who welds, and have them attach it just the way it was before it broke...but im wondering if anyone has better ideas on how to fix this?

Thanks for looking through all these pictures and the reading
