Just saying because people were complaining about the side step and would rather just order a sport and forgo it and just stick with nothing or add aftermarker rock rails (which you could do for sahara too).

|Zmob||I'm no expert, but I'm pretty sure the sidesteps are fairly simple to remove if you know you're going off road.|

Plastic Side Steps
The plastic side steps are ok except for off roading. First time I went to Superlift in Arkansas I tore up one side and cracked the other. Now I have Ribicon Rock Rails. After several hard hits, no damage. Just a little spot paint and I'm good. I also put two dimples in the oil pan without a problem. So I will wait until I need a new oil pan (82dollars) rather than 125 for an oil pan skid plate.

Otherwise they do nothing. If you go offroading and hit something with them, they'll break. If somebody gives you a love tap during a low speed side impact, they'll break. They are plastic.
There are aftermarket "rock rails" or "rock sliders" you can buy that are actually made of steel. These do mostly everything the plastic ones do (well, most won't stop the rooster tails) but cost less because they're not made by Mopar. They also keep your sides safe from boulder impacts and provide some side impact protection.
Google "Ace Rock Sliders.". Or go to Quadratec.com and look under the "body protection" category.
Make sense? If not, I got some plastic side steps I'll sell ya.

Can someone explain to me why the plastic side steps are so bad? I was in the same boat and went with the sport and was just about to order those side steps.
Are there other steps that I'd be better off getting?

However, at this point I think it'd be pretty foolish to buy a pre-2012 unless you at least test-drive both. Going with the Mojave would be passing up on a lot of hp and torque just for some lizard decals.
There are very few things about a Mojave you couldn't add aftermarket for the same "look" for much less money. I'd go 2012 with the new engine, almost no question.

I'm going through the same deal. Problem is I love the painted goodies on the Saraha, but is it worth the $3000 upgrade?
Yes the 18' tires cost around $50 more over the 17' when they need replaced. Maybe alittle research can save you money.
I narrowed it down to a 2012 Sport or 2011 Mojave (love the grey rims). Looks vs MPG. Going all out Stealth Black!
I just can't decide.

Those were the reason I bought a Sport S instead.
The painted fenders and hardtop look great.
However, the side steps catch too much mud/snow/salt in the Midwest.
Adds a rust issue and gets your clothes (and the wifes) dirty.

|daggo66||A Sport can be equipped identically to the Sahara with the exception of painted fenders, dash accents, silver bumper inserts, 18 inch wheels, and the Sahara sticker. Other than that there is no difference. Both come with 32" tires. Replacement tires are more expensive with 18" wheels.|

I think it really boils down to, do you want painted fenders and top? It is under $200 to buy and have installed a remote start so no big deal there. But if you plan on off roading the painted fenders are a liability. The fenders are my line of defense and the black fenders have taken abuse well for me.
I have the Sport S and love it and the savings can be used for mods. I would recommend the Trac-Loc rear diff. The LSD really is a plus. Also the tow package has really been worth it for me because the 2 door has such a short wheel base it is nice to know the electronics included to control braking for anti sway gives that extra peace of mind that you can't get in a after market unit.

2dr sport (s) or sahara
Long time lurked first time poster. Looking at getting our first jeep. Considering the sport (s) and sahara. Has to be two door since we have a small garage and shared driveway. Wondering what the pros and cons are given almost identical options added.
Were looking at a jeep w/
Power convenience group
Sport package (ac, 17 inch tires)
remote start (not factory installed in the sport but available in the sahara)
I know some of these are standard in a sahara so that is why I ask the question. Is the few thousand dollars for the sahara worth it? Looks like we will be getting the preferred partners price (1% below invoice) so maybe the difference is closer than I think.
